I’m looking for a warmer/fatter bridge pickup that works great for PRS Custom.
I currently use the rebel yell in this guitar, and while it do sounds great and really clear, I want to try something fatter as an alternative. I’ll use it to cover anything from 80s rock to modern metal (dream theater, lamb of good, testament) and a little bit of classic rock/blues (govt mule, gary moore).
So far I’m torn between the holy diver, alnico nailbomb and the abraxas.
- The holy diver seems to be recomended a lot for PRS, but I’m afraid it would be too honky? However based on the “hair metal” clips on BKP website, it sounds really close to the RY just with more mids, so I guess It could work in my guitar?
- the nailbomb because it was the first BKP I played many years ago (it was in a stop tail PRS singlecut), and it was simply the best high gain sound I’ve ever heard. However I’ve read that it’s a hit or miss with some guitars, some people find it too cutting while some find it too dark.
- I’ve read that the abraxas was designed with the PRS Custom in mind, and it was basically a hotter Mule. I liked the mule in this guitar, but I’ve read that the abraxas is not really tight enough for modern metal.
Really appreciate if some could share their experience with these pickups. Thanks!
