Can't say for certain, just try around the Barfly, Zanzibar, and Bandwagon and so on - there's usually something good happening around there (or at least, there used to be), although they might be turned over to DJ's on Friday now, I can't remember it's been a while!

Also, Gigwise is a pretty good online resource:

And if you're in town, try and pick up a copy of The Fly for free, it's got detailed gig listings in and around the area.

Thanks gentlemen, I'm just about to escape Chester and head over to liverpool in about an hour, I will check out those resources when I get checked in to the hotel.
