Hi all,

I have a MM Silhouette (alder with pickguard, maple neck+rosewood fretboard, vintage trem+locking tuners) which I use as an all-round pop/rock/shred guitar, but in particular I want to use it to 'study' (venture into) jazz and country.
I want to get warm, articulate chords out of it (at east in the neck). I currently have a The Mule in the neck, but I find it a bit too muddy, although lead tones are fluid and sweep picking sounds nice.
Originally, I was thinking of putting a Manhattan in the neck, but that might be too much of a one trick pony?

Some nice strat tones are definitely a plus.

Are there combinations/suggestions to get some kind of tele sound out of it?  There is a superswitch and an additional toggle switch, so I can play around with wiring. E.g., I combine the 2 outer coils of my humbuckers to get some kind of middle tele sound, but could be better :)

So, which HSH combination could you suggest?

The Blue Note would be a great P90 to try. It goes partway in the same direction as the Manhattan, as far as using a lower powered magnet set to produce a more open dynamic feel and more pure tone, but keeps one foot in the grit, so it's perhaps a bit more versatile overall

Thanks, I was starting to think about that one as well.

Do you then particularly mean as neck pup, or as bridge (too)? What would you recommend as middle single coil, and bridge?

BTW, if I find the Mule too dark/boomy in this guitar, would a nickel cover (on a Stormy Monday) be a bad choice, then?

I just measured the DC resistance in the Mule, and it's 8.6 kOhm (mounted, so I used a cable*). I bought it for a neck (second handed), but this would indicate it to be a bridge?!
It's installed in the neck. What impact does it have? 
Could that explain it to be a little 'boomy'? I'm on the verge of buying a Stormy Monday to reduce this effect, but maybe a true Mule neck could also make a difference? But then again, some people had the same experience, and the SM solved it.


(I compared it t the Crawler bridge in the same guitar, which read 15.14 kOhm, slightly below the specs).

A small update.

I bought a SM neck, covered, replaced the custom Dimarzio single coil with a Veneer '63 and put the Mule in the bridge.

The SM really is a completely different sound. Silky, articulate, less (no?) grit, pronounced bass but tight. I have to tweak it, but I do miss some warmth of The Mule.

The Veneer in this is nice. I had it in a Hamer Centaura, but I wasn't impressed. It serves its purpose better in the Silhouette.

The Mule, which I thought was a neck - but the DC resistance says no -, is very bright in the bridge. It sounded very warm in the neck, and this is quite a difference, and somewhat disappointing. I'll check if the connections are ok (kOhm reading seems ok), but I might put the Crawler back in. Any alternatives?
