does it make a difference if i get my humbuckers open-poled or covered? i know they look different but does it change the sound in any way?? also for the single coils what is the difference (in look and sound) between vintage staggered and flat profile?

You might want to do a search for this topic, because it gets asked about once per day, and there are reams of posts about it.
The general concensus is that no one knows for sure. I certainly don't notice a huge difference between the two. :)

If you were to take a cover off a pickup your initial impressions would be of more top end and a brighter/airier tone.Putting a cover onto a pickup tends to round the highs and lows-warming the tone effectively and slightly lowering the output-and I mean slightly here!

I prefer covers on my Les Paul for the sole reason that I think they look better. As for sound, most of the pickups I like in Les Pauls are covered but that's probably because I like older sounding pickups in Les Pauls.

I perfer covered humbuckers because I love how they look and I sheild all my guitars and instead of sheilding the pup cavities the cover acts as a sheild.

I would always choose covers with BK because they are stunning, especially the camo covers.

Got open poled pups on both guitars I prefer the look. Zebra Mules on the Les Paul and Crawlers on the V. The zebras have made such a difference to the look of the guitar and the sound of both guitars is amazing so much better than the stock pups. Now I have gas I need another guitar and I NEED REBEL YELL PUPS.
cheers
