for an extra 300 you could of have gotten a fender custom shop 'Custom Classic' strat in a 3 tone sunburst with rosewood fretboard

your right but I'm a bit of a Bells and Whistles kind-a-guy.

Elliot,

No the S1 switch is not reliant on the pickups, their two separate features. :)

Mostly you notice a bit more out signal boost/thikcness... like comparing a humbucker to a single coil. in positions 2 and 4. Basically it allows the pickups to change from parrallel to series connection. a few other combo's  like 3 pickups on at once in position 3.... but their pretty useless/pointless.

They call it the "special capacitor" but I dont know whats actually special about the capacitor.

heres the picture of the piece of paper that comes in the case.

what a weird diagram how does pos 2+4 sound without the "special capacitator" and how does it sound with the "special capacitator"

just like a normal strat in that position.... kind of lower output/smooth/out of phase kinda sounds.

so technically your really not getting that much of an improvement. im presuming your going to be putting in bk pickups so maybe you should wire the s1 switch as a kill switch

nah thats what a "circuit Breaker cable" from Planetwaves is for... or a floor tuner

It does make the guitar mor flexible as you can have a better go at really "choked" tones like jazz... or push the button in for more push and use it for harder driving stuff like rock/metal.

I'd also suggest a Jap strat
http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/index.php?f=data_fender_japan_new_guitars&a=1

For just over £500 you could get a 57 or 58 re-issue - dump the Texas Specials if you don't like them (should sell for at least £50, probably more on EBay) and put the money towards some BKPs.  So for £600/650 you would be very happy! A mate has a 68 Jimi H reissue Jap Strat and it is stunning.
