What gear do I get?

Don't buy a valve king. They're the most rattly/rumbly half constructed peavey I've seen in a very long time. The valve dynamic dial on the back does virtually nothing, the pots are cheap dirt, the speaker's woeful and it's not particularly loud or distinctive. It's a bit of a bodge to be honest. If I were you, I'd consider second hand above one. I'd consider an old valve radio over one.

I hate Fender guitars, but i just stumbled apon this used one which was at my local guitar store which i think looks great.

Fender Showmaster QBT HH

http://www.machinehead.co.uk/images/used-jpg/0-guitars/fend_show_qbt-lg.jpg

Brown Transparent,
Basswood body, with Carved Quilt Bubinga Top
Maple set Neck, Modern “C” Shape, Rosewood Fingerboard, 24 Jumbo Frets
1 Seymour Duncan® ‘59 Reverse Polarity Humbucking Pickup (Neck),
1 Seymour Duncan® SHPGP-1B Pearly Gates Plus Humbucking Pickup (Bridge),
5-Position Blade, Special Switching, 2-Point Synchronized Tremolo
Cast/Sealed Locking Tuning Machineheads, Smoked Chrome Hardware,
inc hard case.

It's £399, what do you guys think? I like the look but i'm not sure if it will play well as i don't usually go for Fenders.

ALSO, when that guy said see if you can find an RG550, i just did, it's at a guitar store near me and it's used at £349

There is also another RG which is the RG520 for £299 which has been refinished.

I play mostly metal, but i do like some clasic rock stuff at times, but mainly kind of melodic/death/prog/power/heavy metal, lots of metal basically, i was leaning towards the SG at the Ibanez RGT42, but is an SG good for metal, i know some bands use them but most go for the Ibanez and Jackson, but i guess its down to personal taste right.

I would look for a used Ibanez RG. They can be had very at a very cheap price if you look in the right places.

As for the amp. I actually thought the Peavey Valveking didn't sound too bad. It didn't sound fizzy and dull compared to other amps in it price range or other amps similar to it.

Now me, they give cramp. Feel good to start with then my hand starts to look like a claw so I don't find them giggable. Guess it's my technique (or lack of it) but I prefer a reasonable handful where I get to the end of a gig and only my fingers hurt!  The only way to find out what's right for you, as Twinfan says,  is to try them all. Then go with your gut feeling.

I have a similiar problem with the super thin RG necks.  I have a Jem and that is absolutely perfect (a tad fatter neck but not all that much fatter), but the RGs give me hand cramps rather badly.  Maybe it's my super-sized hands though.
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

Major change of heart here, what i think i'm going to do now is save up and wait till next year perhaps, then buy a Gibson Explorer, then get some BK pickups and put em in there and it will sound amazing. So now my main focus is the amp which i will get sometime this year.
