« on: May 24, 2006, 08:29:52 PM »
OK, so i've decided which guitar I want to buy:

Epiphone Jorma Kaukonen Signature Riviera:

But, what I'm wondering is what Cold Sweats would sound like in an archtop guitar???

Cheers

Not sure but to my mind they might not work so well. It seems like a stormy monday or mule for a semi. Someone will chip in though.

Tim always says lower output for semi's, this lets you hear the tone of the guitar.  I am putting a Riff-Raff and Stormy Monday into my 335.
So many pickups, so little time

See I quite fancy Mississippi Queens in a semi. But I'm not too sure how it would compare to the sound in my head. Could pay off, could be a disaster...

Just to see what it would sound like, I'm mad, it's a habit

I probs won't though, might go for the riff raffs like PhilKing.

It would probably sound amazing actually, Nick Valensi has HB-sized P94s in his Riviera so...

I'm just supposing here, but I would assume that a high-gain pickup in a hollowbody would lead to feedback problems.

I was thinking the same. Someone on here a while was having feedback problems when they put some high output bucker's in their chambered body LP DC Std, so i can only imagine the squeal that would comeout of that with cold sweats... Mule and a MQ would definately be my choice!

Why don't you put a MQ in the neck and a Stormy Mondayor Mule in the bridge - that way you get the best of both worlds - the combo balances really well.

As I understand it Most semi players with P90s play the neck P90 anyway - so you would get a classic sound.

I already have a MQ in the neck of my Les Paul, so I wanted different pickups in this guitar, so i am now looking at a calibrated Mule set, or Stormy Monday

:D I can personnally recommend the Mules mine are great !!

Very versatile can handle anything & they have a lovely warm sound. There was a company that made guitars that got reviewed in Guitar Buyer & they had a semi loaded with Miracle Mens believe it or not. So it is possibe to put high gainy type H/B`s in a semi, but without hearing it & playing with it for a while i woud have thought it would have feed back like a bitch  :P

mules are similar, but with a kick in the ass. A bit higher output and a bit more bite and versatility

wkd, which magnet would be best then? i know that Vs are the most aggressive ( i think ) and that Slash uses IIs because they are the smoothest ( again, i think ) would IIIs or IVs be a good compromise, or maybe both, IV in the bridge and III or II in the neck???? i don't know, i'm just waffling atm
