Clips for lots of great gear!
« on: May 25, 2006, 08:57:06 AM »
Hi all,

discovered this German Dealer who has really a nice selection of stuff in his shop (Tim, you should talk him into adding your pickups to his lineup!).

He's got lots of clips for all kinds of boutique amps, pedals, speakers etc. Really useful and interesting - GAS !!!!

My favourite is the ZVEX Octane clip - man I need to have this pedal!!!

Which is yours?

Well the H&K Tubefactor sounds great to me, I really want to get one sometime. And the JCM800 and SLP which sounded perfect :D

Also just listened to Twin Reverb, sounds bloody great too!

Really nice demos on there. I liked the Twin, the H&K Duotone and  the Bad Cat. Damn I have expensive taste.

The cable comparison is also very, very interesting.

Hmm... just listened to the speaker clips. Didn't know the V30 sounded so nasal.

Now this one is even more interesting, it has about 100 clips of different ENGL, FRAMUS and PROMOD amps:

i couldn't hear any really noticable differences betwen cables, lol - i guess i have rubbish ears, but i think i prefered the "fatsoflex"
The V30 didn't sound nice at all to me; was far more impressed with the G12H

The fatsoflex was the loudest clip, interestingly enough.  Actually, I like spectraflex cables and use them and monster cables for nearly everything.

And I liked the Greenback speaker best. The G12H, which I think I have in my cab, was a bit too harsh-sounding in the high register for me.  Or something like that.  :)

Interesting, but far from complete.
Rock Solid has a bewildering array of clips, but limited makes and models.

I think a guitarist would be better off going to a good city (like New York) that has most guitar amps within reach and try them out 1st hand.

Major issues shopping in NY:

How to get a Soldano SLO100 in the overhead lockers
How to get a 110V US version transformed to continental European 220V

agreed. you can never really tell from clips.

I pretty much did that last summer in London. And then found out they didn't have that much stuff... ah well, I got to try most of what I was after... :(

EDIT: oh, and I'm gonna have to go against the grain. I liked the vintage 30 best. The blue bulldog was really nice too.

Still, I say you can't go by clips- I heard speaker clips on another website, and the greenback and g12H didn't sound ANYTHING like that. I haven't tried them, though.
