I shall be speccing up a small speaker cab for my Nano and was wondering if anyone had any views on speakers and their character/sounds. I've never been convinced by the V30's and want something with an earlier break up /gritty sound to complement the nano etc.

Ideally 16 ohm and any size from 8'' to 12''

The differences between the speakers here is pretty accurate.

In my opinion you need a G12M, but bare in mind that you'll have a job overdriving any speaker with Nano power.

Some Celestion's aren't as sturdy as they once were (for once I can safely say.....fact) but again with Nano power you shouldn't have any probs.

Out of curiosity: why a small cab?!
I played the Nano thru a 4x12, and thought it did a great job, as does my other uber low-powered amp, the venerable Smokey!

I'll throw another thought into the ring. Have you looked at/considered Eminence speakers? The Patriot range are more US-like (Jensen) and the Red Coat range more Celestion-based.  Worth a look

Twilight, I'm looking at a small cab and relatively low efficient speakers as I want to keep the volume to a minimum when running the Nano flat out.

Also don't know whether its due to speaker flyback (back emf's of a larger speaker) but sustain is better when using the inbuilt speaker than with a V30?? I know the inbuilt speaker was included for fun more than anything else but it does have some good qualities as well a some bad ones!

Have you considered  2 x Celestion Tube 10s set in Award Session Pilot cabs- top quality and not going to knock walls over.  Session do 1x12s too.

Elliot, like the sound of the tube 10's! After some quick web searches it seems that they like to break up/distort very early on- just what I'm after!

Probably go for a 2X10 in parallel for 16 ohms
