Just booked a trip to the Matamp Factory!
« on: May 31, 2006, 05:03:23 PM »
The heading says it all really. Just had a somewhat entertaining conversation on the phone with a very Yorkshire chap (who wans't Jeff, but didn't volunteer a name) at the factory and arranged to go over next friday (9th June) to try out a few things, specifically a First lady and Mini Mat for home use and gigging with the lap steel over the summer on my new band's jaunt round the coffee houses of north devon (I kid you not).

I shall report back next weekend. :D

Excellent, you'll love it!
The speaker tester thingy is also worth having a go on - it's not every day you get to switch between 20ish of the most popular speakers around!

Make sure to turn up a GTL as well, it'll blow your mind.

PS good luck with the Yorkshire accents!

Thanks guys. I'm taking the lap steel and my Epi Les paul with BKP Mules so I expect to have a bit of fun

The yorkshire accents shouldn't be too much of a problem as I've lived in York for 6 years now.

I'm already impressed with the customer service - the chap I spoke to started discussing how they could mod a First Lady so it'd be exactly what I needed, and this is all without hearing me play a note. And they're sending a car to Huddersfield Station to pick me up.

The only problem is going to be trying not to blow cash I don't have on stuff I don't strictly need (but wouldl ike anyway). I'm looking forward to trying out a 1224 MkII while I'm there too.

Can anyone say kid in a sweet shop? ;)

Hey Rahnoo, great news for you!

I don't think I'll be able to get there for that date, unfortunately. But I might be able to - would you mind if I tagged along?

That's exactly how it is! An incredible experience I recommend to anyone on the forum (well, anyone with enough money to buy a Minimat - coz you're not going to want to walk away empty handed!).

You will have a great time there.  If they have the valve try-out rig working, then it would be well worth having a go on that.  There are 2 types of MiniMats too, the 6V6 (which is what I have), and the EL84.

They have altogether too many great amps, I will have to go there again to pick out a main amp I think (I am leaning towards the 1224 mk II).

The speaker rig is great too.
So many pickups, so little time
