BKP's Output Levels

To get back on the output level thing, Bartolini (*coughcr@pcough*) have an output level guide which is referenced to other pickups including DiMarzio. The Bartolini measuring device reads DiMarzios at roughly half the mv level that DiMarzio own method. Just underlining Tim's point there.
Also, again using DiMarzio as an example (I'm most familiar with them), peak output level means bugger all anyway.
A lot of their pickups around 320-350mv actually sound louder than their 400mv models.
It all depends on the frequencies they're pushing and what your amp responds to best.
Peak volts RMS volts...blah blah.....I've got a 7 watt amp that's louder sounding than a 50w, go figure. It's all in the harmonics!!

I actually liked a pair of Bartolini's I had in my charvel. Fancied a change and put Lindy's in, and was diaspointed. Miracle Man sorted it out though!!

I always liked bartolini's for bass.  I have a Modulus 5 string with them and because of the active configuration, can get all the sounds I want from it.

I guess it all comes back to the active/passive thing.  I like BKP because they do have a 'voice'.  Each pickup has its own character and colours the tone (to say nothing of all the harmonics that all the pickups have).  Active pickups always seem really flat (I am sure that is the intention, or perhaps it is due to them having so few turns of wire).
So many pickups, so little time

The thing with Barts is you can get good ones, but you could just as easily get incredible cr@p. They're really inconsistent.
Agreed HJM 7 watts can be f'n loud!

Hi Steve, I had EMG's in the Modulus but changed them.  I am having a bass made at the moment with Bartolini's.  It is neck through with hollow 'wings' and a piezo bridge.  Bartolini make a piezo pre-amp/balance control to allow you to use the piezo with their pickups.  It is a 5 string with an asymetrical neck like the Tobias has.  Oh, and the most important thing - it is purple quilted  :P

Back on BKP's, I love the P-Bass set that I got.  I just need a Thunderbird in aged nickel!  I have a T-Bird that had been wrecked, broken headstock, bodged repair, stripped paint and about 2cm of wood missing from where the neck broke.  It had most of the hardware, but was missing 1 pickup.  I got a new gibson one, but it is chrome and uses 3 screws, the old one is nickel and 2 screws.  I keep looking for one... Tim said if I can find one he will rewind it, however looking for them is like looking for rocking horse sh*t

Cheers
Phil
