just leaving the house to go see axl and the hired help in Dublin!  saw the original line-up way back when, and of course that's hard to beat, but i'm hopeful it'll be a good show.  what's the point in being snobbish about it just because it's not all the same people?  not that many classic bands still have the same line-up, do they?  at least it's the original singer!

i'll let y'all know if it was a catastrophe or a revelation

well, day got off to a bad start, robbie williams was in town as well, so with about 100 000 people all trying to get to two concerts in dublin, it took us 4 1/2 hours to get there.  would normally take about an hour and a half.  missed all the support bands and the first twenty minutes of g'n'r.

which was probably about two songs!  we were in 15 minutes before they'd played two.  after almost every song the whole band walked off stage except for one who would mess about on his instrument for five minutes before they all came back and played another song.  these weren't "solo spots" in the traditional sense, they were literally just f**king about on guitars!  when they didn't do this there were still interminable gaps between songs whle axl seemed to think about what to do next!  without all this messing about they could have played maybe five more songs and retained as atmosphere.  they'd play a song, get the crowd going, then walk off for a while.

as a show it was awful, on this evidence no band should employ "bumblefoot", whose idea of a guitar solo seems to be funny noises.  the thing is, when they pulled their fingers out and got on with playing some songs, they sounded very good.  Axl's voice is in better shape than i ever heard it live before, and the new songs sounded good.  but the show seemed like a half assed rehearsal session rather than something thousands of people payed good money to see.

i still hope the new album, if it ever appears, will be great, but as a live band they really need to think about what they're doing.  the use your illusion tour was often quite self indulgent, but this was ridiculous!  i remember guns'n'roses arriving on stage being described as "like a nail-bomb at a christening"!  this was more like a half full water balloon at an old people's home.  i really wanted it to be great, but unfortunately, it just wasn't.

ron thal is crazy.. he shouldnt be let in a band, save for a guest appearance in which he WILL shred your face off.

(check out freak kitchen and the song Speak when spoken to. the first solo is ron thal, as are backing vocals - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc329X_8bFo&search=freak%20kitchen%20speak  - yes, thats a fretless vigier. brass fretboard)

here's a better quality vid
http://www.freakkitchen.com/video/speak/

he knows he doesnt belong in GnR, and it still baffles me why on earth he took the spot. .. or why he was asked to do it.. just like buckethead. they are best in their own enviroment, which is unconventional, crazy-ass shred.

if you remember what buckethead did when he had a solo in GnR, he whiped the nunchuks out.

ron is no diferent. GnR needs a blues rock oriented lead guitarist like slash. shred doesnt fit with them at all.
dont diss the guy if you dont know him.

maybe... but they're better off with a no-name guy that fits the bill, not big names that dont have anything to do with the music

I guss Mr Thal was in it for the money, to finance his own stuff.

Almost as bad as Level 42 having Alan Holdsworth playing for them (jeez what a dissapointment).

apparantly Axl needed to use his oxygen tank in between songs lol

And he held everything up while he made sure only his 'special mask' was connected to, and ONLY to his 'special oxygen tank'

What a complete $%&#wit.

I saw that too on ITV F1.

Is Axl Rose transforming into rocks Michael Jackson?
