I like Canadians - Great drinking buds, great country and not half as irritating as those damn Australians...They're everywhere in London, moaning about England but working here none the less....

Be nice, Dave. But if they're telling you that housing is cheaper there, they're making up stories, AFAIK. I have friends from Australia who lived in the UK and told me it was considerably cheaper there.
