the 1959 is 100w, the 1987 is 50w... I don't think there is another difference. Other than i prefer the sound of the 1987...

I think this site sums it up quite well. The 1987 sounds smoother to my ears. Also it's 50w which means it's cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain (fewer valves), aswell as being slightly quieter...

More wattage usually equals more headroom for tone shaping, but you can tone shape with a 50w easy as well.

cept that weren't the question...i jus knew that the 1959 was the bigger brother and wanted to know the differences...if you think that another amp is better then go buy that amp, i'm not about to stop you, but with my money i'm gonna buy what i like, and in the words of the mighty double-bass-drum-playing sambo: "SO NERRR"

Please don't take offence - my comment was COMPLETELY tongue in cheek.  Shame there isn't a smiley for that!

As has been said above, the only difference between the two amps is two less EL34 output tubes.  As a result, the 1987X will break up at a less deafening volume and cost less to run.  Tone wise, the 50w is supposedly "sweeter" from what I've heard.

Enjoy whichever you buy!

No doubt. It depends on what you want tone wise. They both are really the same, just diffrent money wise and maintainence really. My vote is still the 1959 though.
