I don't think piezo pickups are classed as magnetic pickups.  And they're developing optical pickups as well, which work by light hitting the strings.

But, yeah, it was a fairly redundant way to describe this guitar.

I know. We all love Gibson.

For their guitars. Not their pickups. Not their pricing. Not their superiority complex. But Their guitars.

There's way more important things in life than what Gibson writes on a spec sheet.

Maybe you should lay off the coffee.

I wonder how I can get the minute back that I wasted reading this thread.

They state "magnetic" pickups because then you know you can use them to fix notes on the refridgerator - more or less an apropriate use of Gibson PUs.

I'm really worried about this forum - people seem to be getting grumpier and grumpier, taking themselves and others way too seriously. I thought gibson's idiocy was definatately worth a thread...

See, just think about why people might be getting a little snappy from time to time. This forum used to be one of the most intelligent, friendly forums. It used to be a pretty cool learning experience to come on here and hear opinions from experienced pro's and people who know infinitely more than myself!

Now, this forum is still incredibly friendly. But, you know, logging on and having to sift through various private conversations that are being conducted in public threads is not always the most enjoyable thing. Yes, I understand the idea of 'banter', but take that quoting-each-other thing that was going on in Brow's thread about his pedalboard the other day. What was the point in that? Where was the consideration for Brow? He put up that thread to talk about his board and his pedals, and some people just pissed all over it. I know it wasn't badly intentioned, but it doesn't hurt to show a little consideration.

It feels like everytime someone posts up a new piece of kit, we get a load of replies saying 'OMG yer I want one!' or 'ROFLTMDGADHG' or whatever this means. Again, it's not ill intentioned, but it is largely pointless and derivative.

I don't dislike anyone here at this forum at all; I think it is super-friendly and everyone is really nice. But I do think there has been an explosion in pointless posts lately. And it's sad for the forum; sure, some guys might be enjoying it but quite a lot of the old posters don't seem to post much anymore. I think that the derivative posts are to the detriment of this forum; it'll just kill it.

So, as I say, I've don't dislike anyone here. But I just wish, from time to time, a few of us would ask ourselves 'Do we really need to make this post, right here, right now? Does it serve any purpose?' Because when you find yourself having to scan through a trail of posts that are hopeleslly irrelevant, you don't really enjoy the forum anymore. I mean, a whole new section of the board was opened up for guys to chat shite, so if you absolutely have to, just keep it there, please?

I just want to stress this again - I don't want to fall out with any of you guys. Posting this was not an easy decision to make. But I wanted to say this. You guys are all really good guys, but there has been a real upturn in pointless posting. :(

FWIW, I believe 'Screaming Daisy' is not in Europe, so 4:15am is probably not the time where he/she lives...

i think people really need to consider the different age ranges on here though. Older folk might prefer the forum was left to the older folk, so they can have their mature conversations about tone, and the younger folk are just having fun talking to anyone, about anything... It's difficult, but yu've gotta live with it on the forum, and in life... What do ya think? lol

I agree wholly with this. Sorry guys, some people just don't want to hear about your personal lives and conversations when all I want to read is stuff about guitars that I will never own.

How about just keeping the off-topic stuff in the off-topic forums?
