I decided to do the simple treble bleed mod on my LP so I can roll down the volume without losing clarity.. it works but it also cuts bass as the volume is rolled down further. All I did was install a capacitor (cant remember the value) across the volume pot, is there a way that will still give me clarity but not make it so thin sounding?

in fact the bass is being reduced by the volume control in the same way as it was before the modification, but the treble is reduced less, so it seems like you're losing bass.

you just need to play with the value of the capacitor. if you're getting too much treble through, then reduce it.

my gordon smith V has treble bleed capacitors installed, and the value picked is great - I didnt notice it at all, until I installed my riff raffs, and then I saw them in there. if you like, i can open it up at the weekend and tell you what the value is?

you could also try high quality pots, if you didn't already.

You could also try using a 200-300K resistor parallel with the cap.

I have a similar mod on the volume control on my fender strat. although its referred to as a treble retention circuit, it does the same thing though.

I too found that you can be fooled into thinking you loose bass when turning the vol. down , but its the fact that you've got more treble than usual present, I still prefer to how it was though, it maintains clarity when backed off, where before it just got muffled and muddy.

What difference would that make? I'm gonna order some stuff for my wah soon so I might aswell order this stuff when I do it!

A 150K ohm resistor (150k not 150R) will do that nicely and a 0.001mF cap in parallell between the input and middle tag of the volume pot

Cheers, I'll order one with the rest of my stuff from maplin then. I'm not too great at electronics, is in parallel just next to it basically? And would it go before or after the cap? thanks again

Here is a picture of a cap and a resistor in parallel
the two wires will then go to the pot tags
