I kinda dislocated my knee today..
« on: July 11, 2006, 07:15:45 PM »
I was cleaning the car and I must've had my leg at a weird angle because the next thing I knew I heard a click and my leg gave in. It must have popped itself back in because I can walk with a limp, Its pretty swollen though. Now heres the problem.. I have my driving test on Thursday.. Do you think they'll let me take it if I turn up with a limp? I went for a drive today and I can still do that fine so I dont see any problem with me doing it but do you reckon they'll object to it? I really hope not..

What can I do to make it heal up quicker? I'm also off on holiday next monday I dont want that to be ruined really.. I'm scared to go to the doctors because they might say I cant take my driving test or something like that.

#1 Go to Boots or whatever and buy a neoprene molded knee brace (hope they sell em here as they do in US). Wearing that will allow it to heal alot quicker.
I see NO reason why a driving test will be affected by you having a limp, performance is everything :)

Yeah, true, I just dont want them to see the limp and say I'm unsafe to drive or something stupid like that, because I know thats not true!

hahah you never know do you. Hopefully though I'd get the sympathy vote and they'd be less strict. Probably not much chance of that though :P Anyway mums found one of those bandage support type things so I'll get that on soon :D

You'll be fine Tom, don't think about your leg cos' it will mess your confidence for your test. Aspirin is good at reducing swelling, not paracetamol or ibuprofen though it's got to be aspirin.

Good luck!!  :)

Arnica is good for reducing swelling-available in Health food shops/boots- you can get a gel to rub on it and/or tablets. I had an operation many years ago and took it in the ruun up and afterwards and healed really quickly. Try to relax it too- hopefully you will be ok gfor the test.

washing the car eh?

Not stage diving off your sofa in the living while recording a new BKP video clip?

As far as injuries in the music world go, its a good 'non metal' one ;)

Seriously... all the best with the test and hope they get better.. id deffo see a doctor if its got worse, if you trapped\damaged a nerve it might come back to plague you.. you might need a bit of physio :(

tom!! This happens to me all the time because the ligaments that hold my knee-cap in place are very loose. WHen it happens to me usually im in serious pain and then it goes after 3 - 4 hours. Those thigns that hold everythign in place round ur knee work wonders.

However ,i did this at download and it went swollen, and it still is   . I went to the hospital about it yesterday and it turns out when i twisted my knee a bit of bone got chipped off the back of my knee-cap. Need surgery on it now   .

Not to scare you, just my experience. If the swelling doesnt go down then id get it seen to, but the pain should go in a few days. And just aheads up, dont go to a minor injuries clinic or ur GP, because i did both and there really is nothing they can do

Best of luck mate!
Chances are you will be fine

haha hopefully, this bandage I have now is cr@p and hardly covers my large knee, holds it a bit tighter though so it kinda makes it a bit better to walk on. The only reason I want to go to a doctors right now is to get some crutches so it doesnt take me 10 minutes to get to and from the toilet hahah.

lol!! ah yea i so been there with this injury   .

For me, stairs were a BITCH. You adapt tho! I can now get down my stairs to the loo insanely quick by hopping two steps at a time with my hand on the handrail (a skill not previously applied!). Its great how you find new ways to get around.

only prob is you adapt to using only one leg and in the process your duff leg deteriorates. In fact, after my operation i gotta have a little physio to get my duff leg strong again!
Sorry if im scaring you with my stories. tbh, its nothing to worry about, even if u have what i have (which is unlikely!)

I'd expect to be fit and well by thursday, or at least in driving conditions!

Good luck again man!
