I am just listening to Metal Fatigue by Allan Holdsworth, funny, us Brit's do not champion our guitar virtuosos anymore (I include Beck here). I love Vai and I like the fact he is succesful, but listening AH I have to ask myself why is AH not the superstar..

Just listening to JB do "Where were you" - absolutely peerless, astounding, not his fast flashy stuff, but his touch, vibrato and volume control is breathtaking

Good point Liam!

Eddie Van Halen tried to promote AH years ago. But found he didn't quite believe in himself enough. In the end he said 'there's only so much you can do for people' Plus he was way too inaccessible for a lot of people. But I like it!

JM

I was at my girlfriend's mum's house over the weekend. I went into a local music shop and found a book of AH music and tab that seemed to have been there for years it's called 'searching for the uncommon chord". AH's account is different: he wanted EVH to produce an album but he got caught up in an VH Tour, so he assigned Ted Templeman to the task...they got a shitety studio and fell down the record company list of priorities. Like a good Yorkshireman AH just carried on with his craft.

After living a year in California and loving it. I'd swap with AH anyday plus he plays the old geetar like the devil.

AH is a great craftsman, but getting back to Jeff Beck; I only saw him play live once, it was 1976 in NY I was front row center stage, I had Blow by Blow, and Beck Ola', and knew his work with the Yardbirds too. However, records can not prepare you for what your ears and eyes wittness. Jeff Beck is absolutely Brilliant. I do think there is some alien DNA in him.

Sounds like a good story. There's always different takes on these rumours.

Move out here!! You can pretty much do what you like and still make a truck load of money.  8)
