i have heard on the bkp forums that a 4 way switch on a telecaster can make it so much more versatile i was just wondering if any one knows how to do this and could please provide some helpful information

Well, Mr 38th is often heard on a lazy sunday afternoon recommending this switching method to anyone who will listen: maybe he has instructions on how to do it too :)

Actually I have never heard of that particular modification :lol: only joshing. I cannot tell you how to do it though there was a recent thread where, I beleive, the wiring was described. Well worth having as you get the three standard Tele arrangement i.e. bridge only, bridge and neck in parallel, neck only plus bridge and neck in series. In fact I have just got back from a gig where my Tele did the business ( witha bit of help from me) and the tone on the latter is just wonderful- particularly if you get BKPs. Phil, Jonathan and/or Ron will be able to give the techy stuff- I am a little , ahem, merry.

I'm just after building a tele, and i have put in a 4 way switch, and i got the diagram from here-> http://www.acmeguitarworks.com/pdf/tele_4-way_diagram.pdf this site can make them for you if you want and they use great quality stuff. i'm just waiting for my neck to come so i can see if it works or not. there is a f**kload of hummmmmm coming from it so i'm pretty optimistic about it working! :?

i didn't have my neck for my tele when i plugged it into the amp so i couldn't hear what it sounded like, but i could hear a load of hum. i got my neck today, i strung it up, but there is hardly any sound coming from the guitar, and the hum is terrible. so it doesn't work!

Just unsolder everything, and check the wires, make sure you have the ground constant all the way from the jack and use a star pattern ground (solder all grounds to the back of the volume pot - and just take one to the tone and bridge).

see, i'm not the best with the wiring lingo, so i can't really understand what "have the ground constant all the way from the jack and use a star pattern ground (solder all grounds to the back of the volume pot - and just take one to the tone and bridge)" means, any way you could explain it clearer?

Great. I guess you worked it out. One thing that can cause hums is a ground loop, so if there is more than one way for the ground to get to the jack, it can give you a problem. Using a star pattern means bringing eveything to one point, and just having one wire to each thing that needs to be grounded from this central point.

these are my first bkps, they sound so good!!! they definitely won't be the last. the cb's really have the tele twang alright, sound like a 50's or 60's tele! but it still has enough power to get great overdrive and dist, and the neck pickup, it's real jazzy, great for funk! :D :D :D :D :D !!!!!!!!
