Best Album you have bought this year so far???
« Reply #45 on: August 08, 2006, 07:27:18 PM »
The only new album I've bought this year which I actually like is the self-titled album by Witch, featuring J Mascis on drums.  Brilliant, sloppy Sabbathy metal.

Every year I seem to buy less new things and spend more on replacing my ancient vinyl LPs with CDs.  It's called middle age I suppose.  Just recently I've been buying stuff by Roy Buchanan, Robin Trower and the Good Rats.

And, as always, I'm listening to Clutch.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Dream Evil = The Book Of Heavy Metal

I just love the start of the title song where he screams METAAAAAALL!, its hilarious :D

:D It is fair to say that these guys are beyond doubt the most cheesy Metal act around !

Into The Moonlight  is a great tune but i rolled round the floor laughing my arse off when i heard the big boomy Manowar style backing vocals singing "Man Or Mouse" !!!

 :D  8)

PMSL!!    I'm off to find it now. This sounds great!

Edit! I'm listing to the book of heavy metal. Great band sound! Please someone tell me this has got to be a spoof! Right??  :? Studs and skin tight leather! FFS!

Ok Into the Moonlight has just started!   ....................... Zacky riff.........Is it after the solo the man or mouse bit? I feel short changed as the download stopped short of the funny bit!!  :D

:D Have to agree with `ya Ben they do make very good music.

Sorry JM the Man Or Mouse lyric is on a different song ! The song is called MOM guess what it stands for !!

The main riff for "Into The Moonlight" sounds very much like the theme to Dr Who !!

I have to be fair here & say that for al the Cheese it is a FUN album which is nice to see.

hhahah listening to MOM right now  so good! I love the guitar tone I have to say, thick and crunchy.

I love The Book of Heavy Metal though, best song ever as far as I'm concerned, awesome riff as well! "Read all about it! YES! READ IT!" that bit gets me every time

Best = Bullets and Octane - In The Mouth of The Young
Worst= well, on impulse and glowing review sticker on cover, bought Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage. Now, not too offend, it is very good technically etc. but made me remember the '80's and why I turned to Metallica/Anthrax/Slayer/Metal Church et. all.
Other than that, replacing old LPs with CD's. Although sorely lacking my 300+ collection as er indoors had no space to bring em when she came over.
Maybe new BLS will be next/ok.

The Band- sublime stuff-I have the DVD of the Last Waltz- never get tired of it and their music is full of soul.

That IS good. I'll have to get that DVD for my old man (and for my enjoyment as well)

Can I change mine to 9 Short Films by Billy Sheehan and Terry Bozzio? I
just downloaded some Niacin stuff too -rocks.

Sheehan is amazing: Dave Lee Roth and the whole rock thing on the one hand; jazz fusion and Zappa type stuff with Niacin on the other; then on 9 Short Films one of the tracks sounds like an 80's  "Japan". Top chap, very underrated and not a bad writer of a catchy song either.

Does anyone know who plays the geetar on 9 Short Films?

I think it's Sheehan himself!  Haven't got the album though, so not 100% certain.

Are we all old farts on here? The Band, Rory Gallagher ! .

Or is it that's there's loads of tosh out there at the moment and the old stuff is just soooooo much better. I recommend the Old Grey Whistle Test dvd that is out, Rory is on there, along with  Lynard Skinnard and loads of other greats. I am glad my dad brought me up listening to Zappa, Santana, the Band, CSNY, Canned Heat, ZZ Top and the like. I wish modern music was as raw and sincere. I suppose I should not complain my girlfriend was raised with Abba and Boney M, she now likes Robbie Williams and other drivel.

Thats the right answer, all (well, pretty much all) new music I hear is shitee indie bollocks. No one seems to "do" rock, I wish I was born when all the good bands were around.

That's what I've been thinking since I was 16 .:)

OK, to be fair, there are probably some cool new rock bands out there.  The trick is -- as always, perhaps --  finding the beggars!
