BKP suggestion for Alice in Chains sound
« on: August 07, 2006, 12:20:10 AM »
First time poster so howdy y'all.

I'm looking to replace the bridge pickup on a LP copy (maple top, mahogany back). I mostly like to play along Alice in Chains so I'm after that really thick guitar tone, heavy distortion but not over the top.

My original thought was going for another Seymour Duncan JB like I have in a Ibanez RG. It's the same pup as Jerry from AIC uses, and it's very versatile so nothing wrong with it. But since I need to buy a new one anyway, and since I've heard so many good things about BKP, I'd like to hear what you guys think.

I think a Nailbomb or Holy Diver, the HD is a bit thicker I believe and the NB has more crunch and is possibly a bit more versatile. IMO of course 8)

I really love the AIC sound, and I'm looking at the Cold Sweat and Rebel Yell, although the Holydiver and Nailbomb should do it as well. Any of those 4 will do it, just depends what else you want it to do I guess.
Cold Sweat, Nailbomb 7b, Cold Sweat 7n

I'd say Rebel Yell or Crawler.  Both those are sometimes compared (favourably) to the SD JBs, in slightly different ways.

Nailbomb, Cold Sweat or Rebel Yell. I'm sure Tim can narrow down the choices for you even better, but that's what I'd recommended.
BKP's: Nailbomb, Miracle Man, Cold Sweat, Mother's Milk, Mule, Rebel Yell, Crawler

"Hairy Knuckle Pickup".  That's what happens after excessive shredding, ya know! ;)

Cold Sweat or Crawler should all be good candidates.

Crawlers would be nice for AIC. Or maybe Black Dogs if you have a really gritty sounding overdrive/fuzz pedal.
