Which pickups for Gilmour's Dark Side of the Moon Tone?

Allright, I have two sound ideals: Jimi Page on The Song Remains the Same and David Gilmour on Dark Side of the Moon.

As I haven't found a proper strat under 3,000 EUR, I'm going to have one built.

Which BKP SingleCoils are going to give me that DarkSide tone that is so big and itchy at the same time, but still be versatile enough to let me do some SRV, Clapton, RHCPs?

I plan to have it done with Vintage Steelblock Trem, Birdseye Maple (not Rosewood)Neck, Alder Body, locking tuners...

My view is that much of the tone comes from Mr Gilmour's fingers- that has to be out of the equation so you need a great core Strat tone and you'll have to supply the f/x yourself. I would say Apaches for the great traditional Strat tone.

As Mr 38 said fingers, though somebody mentioned Mothers Milks for mid period floyd.

According to the ine of the members of the Australian pink floyd, Mr Gilmour hits the strings very hard indeed (guitar picks end up serrated after a couple of songs).

he's used old strat pickups and modern EMG's and still sounded much the same, i'd say pick the set that seems to suit you best from their descriptions and sound clips, the rest is in your playing.

i think there are a couple of Pink Floyd clips in the players' room, check them out.

 I have a friend in Canada who did some work on Dave Gilmour's amps and got to see the full rig when Floyd toured in 94/95, there are many toys in his signal chain.  

Since one of his favourite guitars is a 50's  with a maple neck, Apaches have to be the way to go.

I asked about this a while ago and there was a pretty big thread on it...I was generally told the Mothers milk for the dark side of the moon era. Apaches fro earlier on and another pickup (cant remember sorry) for the period that he used the EMG's

Do you guys think the Apaches can handle Hendrix/SRV/RHCP stuff as well as Pink Floyd like Hunter asked?  

I want a strat set too and these are my some favorites strats tones.

I think the Apaches will handle all of those.  Of course there are other BK Strat pickups with a more specific sound, but for me the all around sound of the Apaches makes them really versatile.

I can tell you that my Apaches have plenty of the Strart thing that I need to play Hendrix/SRV stuff- subject to the limitations of my playing. They are classic Strat pups. I have not tried Mother's Milks so cannot comment on them .

I must confess I don't know the Gilmour tone - but to my ears the difference between the Apache and the Mother's Milk (I have strats with both) is that the Apache has more high end and more of a spanky fluid tone and less power (in a good way - no unwanted growl - something strats don't necessarily need) whereas the Milks have more in the bass are woody in tone and have more overall warm, with a punchy top end and more obvious power (but still on the clean end of the spectrum).

(I have a rather cr@ppy AB in the players section but nothing Gilmouresque)
