Muff for DOOM?!

Depends on what kind of tone you're going for.  Obviously any fuzz is not going to give you that heavy amp overdrive sound, but you're not going to get a wall of fuzz sound out of an plain old overdriven amp either.

Plus, Pentagram aren't really doom, they're heavy metal....just like Sabbath.  Doom has plenty of fuzz going on.....particularly the slower, more ambient and experimental stuff.

Myself, I use a Muff for some out of control wall of fuzz type stuff but most of the time I rely on a dimed Orange.....the two mixed together is awesome, but it's not a sound you can use all the time.....particularly since it doesn't plam mute worth cr@p.
Les Paul -> Orange

The best (stock) Doomy fuzz pedal is the Russian Green Big Muff (imo) set with the volume on full and just enough gain to make things cook.

Yeah, I've got one of those -- though, alas, mouldering in my parent's garage in the States!  It did get a very fat stoner-ish sound with my LP (which, when I was a poor student, I played through the Big Green Muffski and a big ol' Peavey bass amp!), and I sometimes used it with my bass as well.  Good stuff.

Heh, it's over 10 years old now -- maybe it's a "vintage collectable" in it's own right!

Ah, I want that Ezekiel 25:17 bass pedal.  Then I want to notch it up to to the Great Vengeance setting and let 'er fly!    (Hmm, "Great Vengeance" ain't a bad name for a band ....)

The Sonic Titan looks cool, too ... though I keep mentally adding in the cost of the amps I would need to go with these, the cost of the house and/or soundproof bunker I would need to put the amps in .....  :P

Muff for DOOM?! I always found mine responded very poorly to palm muting and pinch squeals (I kno those arent common techniques for doom metal, but im more into traditional, early Pentagram type stuff). Im actualy considering selling mine because I havent used it for months but for a while I was considering having it modded.[/quote]

I recommend the fuzz head, because it can get stupidly heavy and saturated, AND you can even control the amount of gain you want! there's an internal gain control. The main point being, with my Keeley Fuzzhead you can play anything and it'll retain all articulation and delicacy in your playing, whilst being extremley heavy (if you want it to be) here's a usefull link for you all http://www.robertkeeley.com/fuzzhead/

Nope you are quite right! Foxx tone machine replica with 100HFE transistors and a 3 way toggle to select between either germanium, sillicon or no clipping diodes! :D

Ahhh fuzzzzz.....  :D

I have a Muff Pi and a Dod Classic Fuzz as the more traditional units. I use the Pi more and get great stoner/sabbath sounds through my marshall with my SG. Then I get anything from great bluesy stuff to angular riffage out of the strat. A very versatile pedal.

I only really used the Dod with the Palm Bay.

I'd quite like to get some Monkey FX fuzzes as they're pretty cool. :P

Yeah, the Mayo is on my list of potential pedals, although I love my current fuzz the Catalinbread Teaser Stallion. I'm worried that the Mayo may just be a case of Emperor's New Clothes and the fact I've listened to Smashing Pumpkins all summer...

Very Hendrix.  8)  A little thin at times, though. The germanium version is just a little smoother. I love the name "Foxy Fuzz" though, sounds dead mucky that!

mmmh, I dont know about that? can u explain what u mean by 'thin' maybe it's just me but it's actually one of the thickest fuzz pedals I've ever heard, glad u checked them out anyhow. They're very good pedals and more people need to know about them. I'm gonna go for the 60's vibe pedal once I get my next cash load through ; )

The lovetone big cheese is the king of fuzz pedals, but mine died many moons ago, possibly never to return. Sadly, they don't make 'em any more either, and the £300+ cost of the last run of the Cheese Source (Big Cheese and Brown Source COMBINED) is beyond my means....

I am, however, getting fuzzy excellence from maxing out my VC-30 and running a cheap behringer "Clean" boost (PB100) into the front end.
Evil, Evil, Evil...
