What is their prime function?

I mean what style are they at their best in?
And what style do BKP users who have them use them for?

absolutely NO idea what you are getting at here.

I have them (calib. set) in my Gibson Explorer.
Wanted a good rythm chug with dynamics and a 'defined' tone, ala early Hetfield.
That help any?

Oooo Hetfield tone ay! That's what i'm looking for, but by the sounds of 'Ceramic Warpig' it sounds a bit too powerful to be doing early Hetfield, or am i wrong as usual.
By the way how are cleans on them?

I like where this thread is going, it sounds like i may have found the pickup for me :D

Most people who have them i have heard have Explorer's, which is good for me because i just bought one :P

I've noticed that people with warpigs here tend to like mid range, so I'm sure if you turn down the mids you can get a near exact Hetfield tone. But I've always though the Miracle man is better for the Hetfield tone, since he uses EMG 81's and MM's sound similar.

Had looong conversations with Tim on phone about this and he suggested Custom Warpigs.
Course, ALOT depends on your amp, BKP's do not maketh tone alone :).
Anyway, like the early, say MOP, Hetfield tone and this is what I got (through the ENGL, Explorer at 'axe health spa' so not tried through Mesa yet   ).
The WP is NOT just a chug/mud pup. I have gotten blues to jazz outta it and of course BRUTALLITY.
I rate it, but have a norm set and Custom set will opt for summit diff. next time.
Have Shure mic now, so fingers crossed, can record and 'finally' post clips when the lazy beeatch gets back from the 'guitar health spa' ROFLMAO.

Bit too close to call with Custom (Ceramic) pigs there I reckon. Although MM will prob. be my next set (for the 'pet').

Thanks Dakine, the tone i want is exactly as you described it! The MoP Hetfield era. All i need now is a good amp.

I have to say though i have been working on my downpicking and it is getting closer to Hetfields standards (well not that good but i can downpick all of the song MoP)

Don't buy on my sayso though as (and NOT trying to be judgemental here at all!!!!) you might not get too close with your amp.
I mean, Explorer great, WP's great, your present amp - bit lacking. We ALL know tallica has a very distinct early tone. Just don't want ya thinking I just gave ya MOP in a BKP box :)
Custom Pigs are DEF. great though, and VERY versatile!
Can't wait to get my expl. back to test the Mesa now  :D

and BTW, James upsweeps alot in MOP, sorry :) Kinda trademark, me thinks he just gets cramp but who knows lol.

Yeah i know what your saying, i'm getting a new amp before pickups anyway.

And Hetfield upsweeping surprised me! He always plays it downpicked live though i thought, anyways i'm still going to downpick it because i need to improve my downpicking just a bit more and i think it sounds better downpicked.

LOL, no worries, just ragging on ya.
He does some funky stuff live.
'Cunning Stunts' he does alot of upsweeps , good dvd to watch actually. Actually, when tried you can see the tonal nuances on some of his riffs :)

I was going to pick Cunning Stunts up in a store in Portugal, but it was extremely overpriced there, so i just decided i will get it from Play.com or somewhere when i got home, never did buy it though because i had a guitar to save for, but i've heard that huge Live shite: Binge and Purge is a great box set for their earlier works, which is more what i'm into.

Cunning Stunts was filmed in Fort Worth Texas :) and has much better filming due to 'in the round' stage.
I have both though :)
