which bareknucks for me?
« on: September 03, 2006, 01:58:12 AM »
looking for a new set of pups that'll be going into an Ibanez RG, basswood. I'll be upgrading to a Mesa soon and the styles i play are slayer, metallica, black label society. Which pups would be great for that distortion and also have a neck pup for some good cleans and soloing? Thanks.

nailbomb, warpig maybe a miracle man. Id go with the nailbomb as its pretty much the definitive metal pup.

If you're the only guitarist in the band, take miracle man cuz it has a fuller sound. If you're in a 2-guitar band, take the nailbomb, it cuts through like butter.

Musicman axis is basswood too. Standard recommendation in this Forum (and by Tim) is Rebel Yells for the Axis. Seems to be killer, I will know in a few days when my RYs arrive and I'll put em in.

If your neck is maple too, then RYs would be it I think...

Cold Sweat in the neck, Nailbombs work well in RG guitars, most people who have an RG on this forum have a Nailbomb in the bridge. But Miracle Man would be great too, so would the Warpig.

I would say Miracle Man bridge, Cold Sweat neck.

Tough one.
Have a Mesa and some diff. guitars/pups.
Same kinda tone I like alot.
I have 2 EB guitars (basswood) and it's alot lighter and less dense than the mahogany.
Put it this way. Have Custom Warpigs in my Explorer and it SLAYS those tones.
However, being basswod, hmmmm.
To be honest maybe Tim will know better.
Having an Axis and a Pet I would doubt (without mucho twiddling/pedals etc.) a RY will easily get the tones you mention (although could be proved wrong soon :)
I myself am gonna put either a MM set or a Painkiller set in my Pet (soon as sell the Axis).
For me the (ceramic) Custom Warpig is the ticket for those tones (esp. with Mesa Rect.) but with different wood am not sure for you.

From what I heard it seems to blend in with the other guitarist more.... great rhythm option with a guitarist with Miraclemans as well ;)
