:D I`m more into songs than players allthough i do like shredders & blues men. But here`s a list of the players that made me think Wow wish ii could do that !

1  EVH
2  Alex Lifeson
3  Vai, Satch, Timmons, Johnson, there all great instrumentalists.
4  Angus & Malcolm Young.  If i could have been a guitar player in any band ever i wish i`d have been Malcolm Young ! but i loved Angus lead playing

5  Neil Schon
6  Peter Green
7  Huw Llyod Langton
8  Gary Moore [ Rock period ]
9  Michael Schenker/Randy Rhoads...before there was RR there was Schenker !!
10  Ted Nugent he may be a racist but he really could play & i loved his sense of humour !!

i don't really rate guitarists by how good they are at playing, it's more to do with whether or not i enjoy listening to their music, rather than me thinking, "damn, i wish i could play that fast..."

so...

1.  Jimmy Page
2.  Matt Bellamy
3.  Pete Townshend
4.  Slash
5.  Mark Knopfler
6.  Kelly Jones
7.  Prince
8.  Jimi Hendrix
9.  Carlos Santana
10.David Gilmour

1. Randy Rhoads (Ozzy)

2, Vini Reilly (the Durutti Column)
 3. Robert Smith (the Cure)
 4. Jeff Loomis (Nevermore)
 5. Dave Gregory (XTC)
 6. Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
 7. Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins)
 8. Paul Gilbert (Racer X/solo)
=9. Rachel Lancaster (Chippewa Falls)
=9. Laura Lancaster (Chippewa Falls)

There are at least another 58 guitarists I love right now, but these are the players I'm listening to the most. Having said that, I keep a guitar right next to my PC and the bands I spend the most time jamming along with are Muse, Iron Maiden and Queen. Honestly? I love hearing anyone playing any kind of music, because the guitar is the best instrument in the world and I could never get enough of it. Genre, technique and tone are less important to me as a consumer of music than sheer joy and attitude.

1 - Dave Gilmour
2 - Tony Iommi
3 - Stevie Ray Vaughan
4 - George Harrison
5 - Jimmi Hendrix
6 - Jimmy Page
7 - Gary Moore

Last 3 places go not to individual guitarists, but guitarists who are just perfect when playing together.

8 - Angus and Malcolm Young
9 - Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers
10 - Slash and Izzy

So many others to pick from. Satch and Vai, Jake Lee, Clapton, the list goes on. You could ask for the top 100 I'd still feel I was leaving some out.
Sinner, Irish Tour, Mothers Milk, Trilogy, Mule, Black Dog, Mississippi Queen, Warpig

OK, it's favourites, not "greatest" and certainly not "best" (because music isn't an athletic competition).  In alphabetical order (to remove any possible bias):

Ritchie Blackmore
Roy Buchanan
Robben Ford
Marty Friedman
Tony Iommi
Jake E Lee
Alex Lifeson
Uli Jon Roth
Michael Schenker
Robin Trower

Could have easily added many, many more, but that'll have to do.  And I've gone for individuals, but I'd love to include the guys from AC/DC, Maiden and Trouble.

Pierre Bensusan is the DADGAD specialist, isn't he?

I'd like to get into more acoustic music, especially traditional Celtic/British stuff, but I don't know where to start.  Can anyone recommend any "key" albums?

(Edit: I mean "key" in the sense of definitive, not necessarily different tunings!  :)  )
