I'm really the same as caffiene junkie in the prefer listening to music aspect but here goes, (It's more than ten and I dont like having "favourites so its in no particular order):

Jimi Hendrix - Jimi Hendrix Experience
Jimmy Page - Led Zeppelin
Eric Clapton - Cream/Derek and the Dominos, etc
Matt Bellamy - Muse
James Hetfield - Metallica
David Gilmour - Pink Floyd
Adam Jones - Tool
John Butler - John Butler Trio
Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo/Thomas Bangalter - Daft Punk (I'm not entirely sure which one it is)
Johnny Greenwood - Radiohead
Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott - Pantera
Daron Malakian - System of a Down
Peter Green - Fleetwood Mac
John Frusciante -Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Jeff Buckley - ummmm aye (So good I want his version of Hallelujah played at my funeral, not that I plan on dying soon)
Keith Richards - Rolling Stones
John Lennon/George Harrison - The Beatles
Daniel Johns - Silverchair
Jón Ţór “Jónsi” Birgisson - Sigur Rós

Gees this is just the obvious ones though, list could go on for days, and I can't even remember some of the names of people in some bands that I admire.

S'pose I could mention Jeff Beck for making me pick up a guitar after seeing him on Jools Holland even though I don't listen to his music an awful lot.

Ritchie Blackmore - Deep Purple, Rainbow
(Defined the sound of Deep Purple. For me, he played a bigger part in inventing shred than Yngwie. Love the sound, love the music.)

Considering the attention Page and Iommi get, I think its criminal Blackmore isn't given more credit.

Amen to that.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I mean, listen to the neoclassical stuff Ritchie Blackmore did... It's just like Yngwie but better, and not as fast.

In no particular order (except the first :D )
John Petrucci
Randy Rhoads
Paul Gilbert
Matt Bellamy
Slash
Jerry Cantrell
George Lynch
Rusty Cooley
Synyster Gates
Joe Satriani

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

someone else who appreciates him that isnt a 'scene-kid'!!!!

lol.

i know a lot of people slag him off, but i think his phrasing is absolutely fantastic...  the way he fits solos into songs is (in my opinion) second to none nowadays.

im not trying to big him up like a little avenged sevnfold fanboy because 'wowxxoz he playz soo fast!!!11111', i really genuinely think hes a great player.

i cant remember who it was, but a guitarist from some other band talked about him in an interview, saying that they toured together, and that he wasnt expecting much at first, but by the end of the tour he considered him a musical genius.

a lot of people dont realise he actually went to a music school/university and isnt just another typical shredder. his dad plays some nice acoustic as well, as does he himself.

anyway, sorry about the bio, ive made it out like hes the best player ever in the history of the world.

didnt mean to do that at all! just surprised that someone else actually appreciates him.

personally i love Page, hes probably my personal favourite...

cant think of a top ten as such though.

Hey there, I seem to have some more in my favourites :)

Angus Young, deserves mention on his own IMO for those times in the second half of their set, shirtless, when if you're lucky your pure divne  RAWK Angus comes up to earth ...

Tom Morello should get more credit too, he is a riff genius.

Also:
Dave Mustaine
Kieth Richards
John Squire (Stone Roses)
Johnny Marr (The Smiths)
El Hefe / Eric Melvin from NOFX, their tempo changes are proper job.
David Gilmour

A nod for Ritchie Balckmore too. But not in a witches hat. Oh no

And as a SG totting Warpig lover can't leave out Mr. Tony Iommi

Jason Becker is possibly the most underrated guitarist of all time. I personally like him a lot more than Yngwie.
