well, if you want a job at curry's, be sure to purge your mind of any, and i mean ANY, knowledge you have about electronic equipment.  you shouldn't even be able to find the standby button on the front of a tv.  also, be prepared to tell everyone about the great insurance policy you can do for them, even if it's just for the cup of tea you've just made for your mum.  and don't forget to completely ignore customers, especially if they're looking for help, if they come near you be sure you can find a nearby workmate to have an apparently deeply important conversation with.

well, rant over, apart from that, good luck with the interview!

I saw an interview with 'Chico' (It's Chico Time!) last week and he was giving advice about confidence, and although I'm not his biggest fan he had some good advice.  When your having the interview and before it even starts, pretend that you've already got the job.

I feel for you. Well, I did...:) I had an interview for my gap year course (foundation art diploma@London Metropolitan) on Wednesday, but received word today that I'd been accepted. Good thing too, as I had to risk not going anywhere this year to take an interview with them, as theirs are the last.

Good luck, Mr Junkie. By the sounds of things, smart casual dress'll do just fine - they won't expect a sharp suit and haircut. Own the place!

Dont overdo the firm handshake and dont stare in an attempt to maintain eye contact. Be keen and enthusiastic and try to think of something to ask. Good luck.

Try to put yourself in the place of the interviewer before going in. What are they likely to want from an employee? In shop work it's worth remembering that people skills can be more important than knowledge of the products that you are selling (this doesn't mean that you shouldn't let them know about your knowledge of electronic goods tho   ), also, an employer will be looking for someone dependable and willing to put some effort into their job. Try and work this subtley into some interview answers and try to give evidence of this if you can.

I was given some great advice by a careers advisor many years back: "Try to regard recruitment as a bit of a game; so long as you know you are capable of doing the job just try and tell them what they want to hear as they can't tell much from just an interview anyway". That advise has seriously done me a lot of good over the years.

I've got an interview at Wickes Extra on Monday   I always wear a shirt and trousers with proper shoes but as I've still not found a job I'm thinking I may be overdoing it a bit with the smart trousers as well as the shirt?
