Whitesnake - Good to be bad!!

Bloody excellent album - the first CD I've bought in years with no filler tracks, it's almost as if John Sykes was back...

Imagine the 87 album crossed with Coverdale/Page.

I love it.  PDT_003  PDT_003  PDT_003

Yeah, I'm tempted to get that Whitesnake album, for some reason... and I haven't really liked anything of theirs since the Marsden/Moody days.  :?

The neighbours cat making some very strange noises, trying to get my cat (Dweezil) out to play......... she doesn't seem to care, she's still sitting next to me.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I'll believe the latter, but the former might be more of a challenge.  :(

Yeah, I'll get it quick while the limited edition's still available.

^ New Whitesnake album is a killer - Aldrich and Beach are on top form, and Cov doesn't sound half bad either!

^ It's the Reb Beach factor that's got me interested really, as I'm an unashamed Winger fan!

But I get the impression Aldrich is the main man in Whitesnake, Reb seems to be very much the "second" guitarist.

Yes, Aldrich is the leading guitar player, I would say - he and Coverdale wrote all the songs, but on the album Beach plays a few nice solos, and it works very well, because of how much his style contrasts with Aldrich's.

Opeth - Damnation. I've only listened to a few tracks but it's awesome. Very different to a lot of their other stuff but I really like it. I've started buying CDs again instead of downloading them, I was starting to feel guilty about stealing good music   So I'm starting to buy all the good albums I've downloaded. Plus it looks cool, having a full cd rack.

Pete Molinari's new album.  Got a bit of a 50's thing going on but I like it.

Morcheba - there's something about a sitar and a resonator playing together that sounds awesome

Whitesnake - Good to be Bad

OK, so I did buy it, and I'm finding it quite strange.  The songs are really good, and I like the guitar playing... but what in the name of all that's holy has happened to Coverdale's voice?  He sounds fine most of the time, but sometimes he's really high and thin.  And every now and then he drops into his old lower register, and suddenly he sounds like he's gargling a bucket of phlegm.  Has he had throat surgery or something?

And the production is bizarre - really dense and murky.  The guitars and vocals are half-buried in a big rumble of bass and keys - the guitar tones don't have any edge or clarity.  Except maybe the last track, which is a bit more like the old days when Coverdale wasn't afraid to have a really sparse production, with his voice "naked" at the front of the mix.  I really should have Lovehunter and Ready an' Willing on CD....
