after being discussed on here somewhere, i got The Treatment's album ,This Might Hurt.

pretty good, great guitar tones and playing.  there were the obvious AC/DC comparisons, but there was something about the singer that occasionally gave me deja vu.  yes, in places he's like Bon Scott, but then it hit me!  in certain places his tone and phrasing is just like Paul Stanley!

anyway, comparisons aside, good band.  i'm enjoying it

Baroness - Yellow & Green
How are you liking it? Only dipped a toe in on my way to the shops and back the other day but, based on what I heard, I think I'm going to enjoy. And I've been a bit preoccupied with the new Testament album, which I'm loving.

Only listened to Yellow so far, it's atmospheric and very melodic.  From the couple of reviews I'd read I was expecting lots of very slow, moody songs which take a long time to get into, but it actually sounds surprisingly upbeat and bouncy (unlikely as that may seem).  I'm not saying they've turned into Abba, but it's not "metal" at all.

Hopefully I'll have time to listen to Green later.

Edit:  I meant to say, I'm quite interesed in that Testament album... they were never one of my favourite bands to be honest, but it's been an absolute age since I bought a new CD of "proper" heavy music.

The last two (this newest one and Formation of Damnation from 2009), are both ace. I'd say FoD just nudges it, because I really like Paul Bostaph's drumming on it (new one's got Gene Hoglan who, while brilliant, seems to be drumming on EVERYTHING these days). I'd kind of slept on Testament prior to getting hold of FoD but, since hearing that, I've gone back through their older stuff and massively enjoyed a lot of it. They're certainly not embarrassing themselves these days the way that, say, Metallica are.

Going to try and find time to sit down with Yellow & Green at some point this afternoon and really get my teeth into it.

Listened to 'Irish Tour' this afternoon. Just finished it as a matter of fact! Its a bit too bluesy for me, but theres some great stuff on there, particularly the lead word. Favourite track on there is "A Million Miles Away"

been listening to the new Darkness album, Hot Cakes.  it's pretty good.  production wise, it's definitely the best sounding record they've done yet.  song wise, they seem pretty good.  will need a little growing in time of course.  i do wish there was a bit more hard rocking on it though!

oh, their cover of Radiohead's Street Spirit is just as marvellous on record as it always has been live :)

Incredible band. Although recently let down by the vocalist allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.

I heard a track the other day (the single, perhaps?)  They seem to have entirely lost their charm for me I'm afraid, maybe because I hated that second album so much.  :|

Meanwhile I have been listening to:

Black Sabbath - Cross Purposes

Black Sabbath - The Eternal Idol (Deluxe Edition)

I've just been reading Tony Iommi's autobiography and it prompted me to plug some gaps in my collection, i.e. the Deluxe Editions I didn't already have (why no DEs of the later albums with Ozzy?  :? )

I know it isn't cool, but I really like the "forgotten years" with Tony Martin on vocals, and The Eternal Idol is one of my absolute favourite Sabbath albums.    This release is interesting, because the second disc includes the original sessions with Ray Gillen on vocals - a very worthwhile "extra".
