Got a bit of old-skool Cursive on tonight. I think it's what's giving me the Les Paul / Fender Amp GAS I've been feeling lately (that and the Fender sounds in Amplitube 2)

Ditto.

Not sure on first listen, it seems a bit lightweight compared with the first album - but that took a while to grow on me.

It is a bit softer than the first one in places IMO, but it's got some really great songs. Devil's Queen and The Ghost of Floyd Collins are favourites of mine. It took a few listens for it to grow on me too, and I was a big fan of the last album.

I quite like it. There's some pretty strong songs on there. Mick Mars is a much better rhythym guitar player than a lot of people give him credit for. The lyrics are quite self-referencing in places, talking about their 80s exploits on the Sunset Strip, but I'm letting them off cos they actually did all the stuff they talk about for real!  If I were being critical, a few too many of the solos descend into wah soaked feedback, but overall I thought it was a solid album - a good 7 out of 10.

I agree with you there, Mick is a great rythme player.
To me though, it doesn't seem like the real MC, its more a more dark feel, and more contemporary - I guess thats what they were going for.
The first few songs could have been better, it only really got going after S.O.L.A.
Definately agree with you about that wah thing though, can't stand them any more, that is the kind of thing that pisses me off. He does have an excuse to be lazy, I don't think he is doing too well though.

Yeah, Mick hasn't aged well.

Mind you, those pictures were taken in 1856.  Notice the upside-down drummer!

(Yeah, I know he has health problems.  Sorry Mick. )

Nothing to be ashamed of there, they were masters of the catchy hook, and they must get extra credit for managing to work "sodomy" into a verse :D
