Tom Waits - Rain Dogs

Got it, wanted to like it, couldn't bring myself to.

Then... one day...

Started to listen to it on the train home from Canary Wharf, after a cr@p day at work, and finally got it.  Getting to really really like it.

Good Man !   Rain dogs is a classic, have you ( from amongst all the other great later day Waits stuff ) tried 'Mule Variations' ?  8)

Roger Waters, Amused To Death

Vivaldi, Gloria

JS Bach, Magnificat

Roger Water's " Amused To Death" is a favourite of mine too, very clever, chilling and engaging.

I especially like it as manifest ( due to the distillation / physical presentation  of my favourite tracks )  on the live DVD 'In The Flesh' .

"Every Stranger's Eyes" -  a classic;  made complete by Roger's unique voice / presentation . The way he moves deftly between carefully pronounced and almost detatched speech - to that rising 'singing' voice of somewhat emphatic despair /  accusation.  8)

I still buy CDs too.  But it seems like we're heading inexorably towards getting all our music and movies by download.  I've been planning on buying a Blu-ray player for ages, but I'm starting to wonder if it's going to be redundant almost as soon as I get it.

I'm not too happy about it - that sense of "achievement" when you manage to track down a rare CD or DVD is going to disappear.  :(

I can't get excited about a load of bloody hard drives (plus another load of backup hard drives to make sure we don't lose it all).

I'm waking up after 3-4 hours sleep when the pain killers wear off. So I've got my ipod on for ages each morning. It's a really nice way of dealing with all this pain, which is getting to ease off a bit now.
At that time of day i just want a lullaby! Joni Mitchell's good.
