Joe Bonamassa - Live from Nowhere in Particular.

Got this and the new one, Ballad of John Henry, yesterday (they were among the CDs I was having trouble unwrapping in my rant elsewhere ).

I'd always assumed he was some sort of metal bloke  - I was vaguely surprised 38th mentioned him the other day, and then when I went browsing on play for blues to spend my birthday vouchers on, up came John Henry...

Not sure about the studio album yet - very classy and all (the wife likes it lots, so that's good), but it's either gonna grow on me or I'm gonna get bored. But this live album is ace :D

Tom Waits again - Real Gone (this time)

Brilliant !  :D

My faves probably being 'Circus', 'Metropolitan Glide' and 'Make it rain' - although as with many of the later Waits albums, it benefits from being listened to as a complete work / experience .  Nice to see the talented and unique guitarist Marc Ribot being employed again on some tracks as well, as I thought his contribution (s) on the album "Raindogs" on tracks like 'Jockey full of bourbon' really helped to make that album the classic it became. Tom Waits seems to have the knack of knowing just who to bring in - and when to use them.

I am pleased to hear that you were not afraid to go for the 'hard core' stuff...  8)

Yeah man.  I was listening to Used Songs the other day and I'd say that's a good place to start with him.  Some excellent stuff, some odd stuff and some very odd stuff.  That's him all over  :D
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I am glad to hear that you checked out his early stuff - on what is a very good / representative compilation album - as behind the eccentricity - he is a lovely ballad writer.

On the otherwise 'angular' later period 'Bone Machine'  album, there are a couple of  songs called " Whistle Down The Wind"  and " A little Rain " that are just beautiful.   On 'You Tube' there is also a little known gem from the recent triple album of 'out takes'  that is called ' Orphans'  the song is entitled " You Can Never Hold Back Spring" - the later being something that a singer / guitarist a mate of mine went straight home and just felt he had to work into his repetoire. The 'You Tube' video has a great photo montage against the Album track backdrop:

So I am currently listening to this :
