:D  I think I have all those Wolfsbane albums, didn't realise I had a complete set!  Not sure if I have the 2-CD version of the self-titled album, though, I must check later.

Wasn't Massive Noise Injection originally released on vinyl only, and they mastered it extra-loud or something like that?  It's one of the last things I bought on vinyl.

I didn't think it was possible to really push mastering volume on vinyl, or you just end up with an unplayable record.

thanks Muttley, i may just do that :)

nfe, the live album is probably just compressed to hell!  no dynamics, just short of clipping at all times.  i have 7" EP from Bootleg Booze records, i can't remember who it is, but it's mastered ridiculously loud and isn't really playable.  the music just distorts and i think the needle actually has trouble staying in the grooves!

the first record i remember coming out that was claimed to be louder than anything else was Pantera's Far Beyond Driven.  haven't listened to it recently, but i think it sounded ok.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

Oh I dunno about technicalities, that was just the way they sold it at the time.  It's a double LP, so not too much crammed on any one side... if that makes any difference.  Probably just marketing hype.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

OK, just to finish the story, the LP has a sticker on the front saying "Loudest Cut Ever".  It was a limited edition of 3,000 copies.

God knows what it sounds like, I haven't had a working turntable for years.

(Edit:  It also has two bonus tracks which I don't think are on the CD version.)

On the way into and home from work today I had a whole smorgasbord of music on:

Highway to Hell
If You Want Blood
A Farewell to Kings
Small Change
Chrome Dreams II

I think I hate being indecisive.
