King's Ex, I think.

Really lovin' Ogre Tones, fantastic album.  And Gretchin Goes To Nebraska is a classic.

Yep, King's Ex.  :D

I like the first album best.  "Power of Love" is one of my favourite songs of all time.

Beth Hart - Screamin' For My Supper

After Philly's description of her being scary I checked out some stuff on You Tube and picked up some of her stuff.  This is the first one to arrive, and there are some great songs on it.  If you like gritty female blues singers, she is well worth listening to.

We Are The Fallen - Tear The World Down
Halestorm - Halestorm

I've been so frustrated by most new rock/metal music I've heard the last few years, I just hate the vocal styles and the lack of melody.  I thought well, girls don't sing like that, so I've been stumbling around Amazon and Spotify listening to female-fronted rock bands.

The two albums above have impressed me so much.  Yes, they're unoriginal ([cough]Evanescence[/cough]), slickly produced and probably not very hipandcool at all.  But they have huge, wonderful soaring melodies and utterly gorgeous vocals.  Who'd have thought it?  I'm having a whale of a time.

Phil, you know that We Are The Fallen is 3/4 of Evanescence without a diva who thought she was bigger than the band.  Any unoriginality is intended, it sounds more like Evanescence than Amy's second album.

Halestorm are cool too.

I know now Andy, although I confess I'd never heard of them until last week.

I also know the singer, Carly Smithson, very well because I am an American Idol viewer.   Always thought she'd be better in a rock band.

(I do like the second Evanescence album too!)

Ash - Sky Burial

The A-Z series of singles they're doing finishes next week.  This is single "Y", and the biggest surprise of the entire series - a 10-minute instruemntal, rather than the punk/pop they've been doing for 15 years.  It's a travesty none of these songs got into the top 40, it's been their best material since Free All Angels, and easily the best thing they have done since letting Charlotte Hatherley go.

I've heard the odd mention of We Are The Fallen, and there's a few folks going bananas for Halestorm on the Download Festival Forums. Rather unsurprisingly, they do my head in.

I'll copy and paste a bunch of the other bands the same folk are shouting about though, might be some stuff in there for ye.

Much appreciated, especially since I know it's not your kind of thing.   :)

I was listening to another couple of female-fronted metal bands last night, Elis and ReVamp.  Pretty good, but I can see a lot of this stuff veering a bit too close to the ol' Power Metal stuff which I'm not so keen on.  As soon as I hear those diddle-diddle-diddle-diddle fast drums I start to lose interest.

Lots of mentions for these (I magine you've heard of a couple):

Sonic Syndicate

Black Stone Cherry
Chevelle
Three Days Grace
Buckcherry
3 Days Grace
The Supervillians

There's also my wee pal Lisa's band Orestea.

I am very familiar with the two "cherries" (I like Black Stone Cherry, but Buckcherry are distinctly second-rate Aerosmith/GNR wannabes (IMO, of course)).

Most of the others I've heard of, but not heard.  I shall check them out.  Ta.  :)

Black Country Communion

maybe it's just me, but... disappointing.  frankly, it sounds like a demo, which having read an interview about it, it basically is.  there are issues with both timing and tuning, and the guitar just sounds like a scratch track.  in fact, the guitar tones are not great.

it shows promise, but it just sounds like they should have spent more time on it.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!
