It is cool that JT's thread is still going. I've been listening to Mr Jimi a lot today.

I'm listening to the new Arch Enemy album, Khaos Legions. In my opinion it is stellar, both the recording and the songs. Lot's of Shenkery leads by Michael, too. "We are a Godless Entity" has my ideal guitar tone right there and the feeling is awesome for a minute and a half instrumental. "Cruelty Without Beauty" has a bunch of really good riffs and some nice surprises that make a metal fan smile while giving some distance from their usual style. There's some nice blast beats and straight forward death riffs in that one.

I've been blasting "Witch" by Witch. Superb stoner rock in a sabbath vein. J mascis of dinosaur jr fame on drum duty with a friend on vox/sludge guitar. Try out the track "seer" on iTunes. It's proper good stuff.

I like it a lot, but was really disappointed by their second album.

I've not heard the second one. I kind of stumbled across the debut. Any recommendations? I love stuff like that. I've been playing the debut by The Sword loads too. Didn't think much of their follow ups. I love the opener on Age of Winters.

I'm no expert on stoner/doom music I'm afraid - I'm just an old geezer who finds most modern metal hard to get into, but I like this stuff because it has some melody and that '70s vibe!

You probably know them already, but check out Scandinavian bands Spiritual Beggars, Grand Magus, The Quill and Witchcraft.  There are loads of others I expect, but I happen to know those!

And we're back to Rush again. "Grace Under Pressure" is such an underrated album!

Grace under pressure is the beginning of the slide into shitee though. Great band. I love them and kudos for still going strong but I don't think they have made a decent album since Signals. You could put all the good stuff since then on one cd.
