Yeah but nobody has answered me to say if Ashdown is good for metal, it's the Ashdown or the Randall.

the ashdown is good for a very specirfic type of metal- namely, bass-heavy nu-metal.

the randall is ok for metal, but is better at a wider range of metal.

neither are amazing, they're both pretty much budget tube amps, and at low volumes with lots of gain, both can get muddy.

I wasn't planning on using it at low volumes. And you could say the same about every budget tube amp.

That Metal Muff sounds way too boxy to me. Nice chunk but it doesn't sound very full.

I think my Tube Factor will kick the cr@p out out of that box.

Retroman Lola

Review Quotes:

"We came to rock. You'll no doubt remember the fun we had with a pair of krank stacks - the Revolution Seris One and Dimebag Krankenstein - not too long ago. Well, the Distortus Maximus took us back to those halcyon days."

"It has the old school rock charm of The Revolution, but whack up the gain and you can get those Dimebag sounds that many other pedals cant deliver."

" We do miss the trouser-flapping bottom end that we got from the Krank 4x12 cabs, but even through our 60-watt combo we managed to put an evil grin on our faces."

"Distortion pedals dont get any better than this"

"This pedal kicks ass"

"Dimebag fans will sleep with it ; others wont be able to sleep without it."

"The Distortous Maximus offers a great range of tones - including vintage rock sounds - but its at its best punishing eardrums."

" As its Gladiator namesake once said, "I am required to kill, so I kill. That is enough." We couldnt have put it better ourselves!"

"For: F*ucking Rocks"

"Against: Two words: Battery Access"

The only downside I can see for it reading the review in terms of against the Metal Muff is the price, which is £140  :?  but I think it would be worth it by the sound of things.

I hope this helps someone out because it took me a while to type out  ,

I actually thought the topic heading was EVH metal muff (with the other threads going on). Though metal isn't my thing I do like Muffs (snigger).

Personally the 10 minutes I spent with one dissapointed me and agree with Ratrod, and I thought the tube factor (I think it was) somebody else was playing was amazing in comparason.

fwit, I have heard that the Digitech Bad Monkey is a 'cheap surprise' and is very very good for the price and trounces alot of higher priced pedals.
Hell, for the price, if it's no good, ya can always use it as a paperweight or 'cat projectile' ;)

Every time I hear a distortion pedal mentioned it's always the Bad Monkey (i was recomended it for my Blues Jr), Though I have never been sure if it's an digital or analogue pedal (not that  it matters too much if it sounds good)

I would use it as a cat suppostory but only if it had sharp edges and is poisionous.

http://www.digitech.com/products/BadMonkey.htm

it's like £30, so not much as have rarely heard anything but great praise for it.

Hell, imagine the fun if it's cr@p or cr@ps out, standing there looking down and screaming 'Bad Monkey, Bad Bad Monkey' ROFLMAO, worth it for the stares alone!

If that happened to Sam he would spank it

Seriousky though, Theres a few tube amp nuts that recomed it for getting a real dirty sound

Yea but assuming you want this pedal for metal hence the topic involving a Electro Harmonix Metal Muff and a Krank Distortous Maximus I dont think the 'Bad Monkey' will do what they do.

It was made to boost your amps tone and guitar signal thus, pushing your amp to distort its clean signal to get that nice natural tube amp overdrive, not for metal etc.

I mean listen to the sound samples...

It it was made for metal it would show some evidence of metal being played on the sound samples. They are titled:

Punchy Drive,
Warm Rhythm,
Lead Boost,
Texas Tone,

Does that sound very metalish to you  :P
