Use very specific words to describe the tonal differences between the Miracle Man and Nailbomb. I want to know like differences in output too.

I have Nailbombs in my SG, and a Miracle Man in my Charvel Model 4.

From my experience the Miracle Man has more mids, and overall is more responsive to harmonics. It basically sounds fuller.

The Nailbomb is more of a scooped sound, maybe a bit more aggressive but not as full sounding.

bollocks imho. the nailbomb has loads more mids which is what makes it more agressive, and the miracle man sounds more scooped if anything, but it has quite a large hollow thud to it due to the lower mids which it has quite a lot of and also more output than the nailbomb

We had the discussion before if you remember, and you acted like a total arse then as well. :roll:

These are my findings from two guitars that I own with these pickups installed using the same amp and settings. Where are your findings from?

From what I've read, Muttley's view seems to be the opposite of what I would expect. However, I've never tried both so I can't really comment.

Nailbomb has tons of mids, that's for sure. Scooped would be the last word I'd use to describe it's tone. So, I'll second indysmith in this matter.

I've swapped my BKPs around a few guitars now and found that they are very transparent to woods. So, Muttley, I think your experience is coloured by how the woods of the guitars is colouring the sound.

Ive asked Tim to give the pickups numbers for EQ off the top of his head (so this shouldnt be taken as gospel: I put him on the spot for it and he was helpfull enough to answer):

Me: If a warpig is bass, mid, treble, 5, 5, 5 then what are the miracle man and nailbomb
Tim: Hmmmm....miracle man is something like 6, 4, 7 and nailbomb is about 5, 6, 4.

As to the question: I can t answer, I've never played a nailbomb.

No it doesn't make you an arse, but sometimes your writing style can seem a bit blunt: "bollocks imho" :P

Not saying you're wrong in your opinion, or that you've been offensive to anyone, it's just the way various comments can be percieved at times (I'm fairly certain I do it also, for example this post I'm sure will be seen as me being a dick - but it's not meant that way)

So yeah - Muttley, your thoughts appear to be going against the grain somewhat...It could be the woods as MDV says :drink:

Blasphemy! Nailbombs are anything but scooped mids. They're fairly evenly balanced.... And I would think they would sound fuller because they have more low mids, where the Miracle Man's have more bass and high mids and highs.

I think your experience has been dependant on the guitars that they were in.

You're probably not IRL, but that's definitely how you come across.

Don't forget that with e-mail and message boards, etc. people have no insight into tone of voice or facial expression for getting a context on what you're saying. So you have to be very careful as only the word content counts.

Quite possibly, but that's surely the same for everyone unless they all swap pickups in and out of the same guitar to compare them.

I actually have different amp patches for my two guitars, and for the SG I have to boost the mids to get them roughly in the same ballpark. ;)

I'm intrigued now. Setting up my music room again this week (finally unpacking stuff after the house move), so I'll try and get some DI recording and stick 'em through a frequency analyser.

I'm with Neemo on this, I don't think the NB is scooped - to my ears it has a load of upper mids that really helps the guitar "cut through". The MM has noticeably more output than the NB - & more low end.

FWIW, I own two guitars with MMs (Flying V & Warmoth Strat) & one with a NB (Les Paul std).

YMMV etc...
