Hey, new guy here (well I've actually been lurking about as a guest for a while because I never get round to registering to forums.)

Hopefully I should be getting my student loan through soon and maybe get a job to afford some of these beautiful pickups.

I own a Epiphone 3 humbucker Les Paul Black Beauty and hoping to change all three for BKP soon. For the bridge I want something driving but not metal aggressive probably Nailbomb (Muse, Tool and others) I was thinking but any advice is appreciated. middle I want to change this to a P-90 humbucker size type preferably but I dont know what type is suitable (for doing cleans, rhythm and lead so needs to be versatile.) Neck I'm not sure about it's for clean and lead, maybe VHII brightness might counteract dead zone (ask if that needs explained) of screw positioning should produce a nice clean or possibly Emerald.

Sorry about the rambling but I'm always thorough.  :P

BTW is it possible to get that Manhattan raised section on a humbucker cos it looks rather cool, going for a retro-future look.

Cheers, Martyn

Well the nailbomb is a bit of a metal pickup, but I have heard them play anything from jazz to death metal and they sound good.   Crawlers might work for you too, but you're going to have to ask some Crawler owners about them.

Do you plan on keeping the guitar wired so that the middle positon is the bridge and middle pickup (and that's the only time you use the middle pickup)?  If you are not going to get it wired with a 5 way switch, then you have the option of the Mississippi Queen, or you could try a Mule (PAF spec) which I would think would give you an interesting tone there.

He wants something louder in the bridge though....  but I suggested Mules in the other two places cause I think it would mix with the bridge and create a good classic sort of middle position tone.

The Crawlers can do "driving but not metal aggressive" quite well; they're voiced like "hot PAF" so they've got the vintage vibe with more drive (but they'l set forth into metal territory happily, and back off into bluesy vibes as well).  For something a bit brighter than the Crawlers' cranked-PAF vibe, the Rebel Yell might be a good option, too.

You could do a matched Crawler or RY set, with a MQ in the middle or something :)

Cheers for all the replys. Pretty much looks like its MQ for the middle, as for the bridge still thinking nailbomb I really meant to say extreme really depends on everyones point of view, seems to be one of the more versatile pickups aswell judging by clips. Neck I still don't have a definite opinion. Finally is there any news on the raised section I was talking about for humbucker Manhattan stylee http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1732
