I think he's got a style of his own, which is very important if you're writing your own stuff. His playing is quite "relaxed" compared to the machine-like playing of Vai, Gilbert, Satriani etc but I'd rather listen to the RHCP over shredders any day of the week.
I guess I appreciate his style as my playing has similarities. My rhythm stuff is tight yet fluid, but my lead playing usually has the odd dodgy string bend with occasional bum notes and is rarely completely and utterly precise. However, it does have lots of attitude and feel and to me that's much more important than playing it perfectly yet sterile. Your attitude can really show your personality and as my band said to me last night:
"Yep some of your string bends are a bit off, but you have Angus-ness" :D
