What kind of Distortion are you looking for?

Scooped?

Gary Moore?

Slash?

Early Metallica?

Besides the "Scooped" the MI Audio Crunch Box does them all to perfection with a huge fun factor (it "drives" your playing). But it will always have mids, so it's not for those hyper scooped tones.

are you using the pedal into a clean amp or to further overdrive an already crunchy tone (think Zakk Wylde)

For my money, you can't go wrong with an original Guv'nor or RAT pedal into a clean amp.

For boosting a dirty amp, TS-9s and SD-1s are great.

I think he would want something heavier than those if he was going through a clean amp, since he suggested a Dime dist.

I was going for the dimebag / maiden / megadeth sound.
My set up without effects is Gibson sg - Peavy classic 30
So i was wondering if the MXR DD-11 will get me close to his distortion?

seconded. also, which amp are you using? and which guitar?
EDIT: shitee. i should have read down.

Are you willing to boost the OD channel on the amp?

i mean, I'd say an OD would get you into megadeth territory with a classic 30, especially if you crank it. I'd even say the classic 30 could do 'deth without an OD if you don't crank it.

pantera would need a bit more work, though.

I'll second the big d, as ben said, it rules (i haven't tried the other ones he mentioned, i'm sure they're worth a look too!).

also, HBE have a more modern metal distortion pedal just out, it might be worth a look- but if you only want to boost the OD channel, i guess the big d (or even something like a powerscreamer) would be better.

I always suggest amp distortion + a good 'push pedal' such as a Tube screamer or modified SD-1. I happen to do a rather good one ;)

I disagree, it wasn't anywhere near as extreme as you'd have thought, in my opinion...

dimebag (RIP) didn't seem to be averse to endorsing anything and everything thrown at him, unfortunately.

Great player, though. :(

i was hoping to use the pedal on the clean channel and then use a boost on solo's. Do you think the DD-11 will be capable of that?

you'd need to try it through your amp.

how much is the dd11, though? i know that if it's approaching the cost of the hbe big d (and I think it is), I know which one I'd go for... (though the big d may not be extreme enough, I can't really remember just how heavy it gets, though ben/TO should be able to tell you)

I have seen it advertised in Sound Control on sale for £64
So i thinjk it is pretty good value - the RRP is $210.30 roughly £140
