HB Help?!
« on: October 15, 2006, 09:55:00 PM »
Im doing a homebuild guitar currently but cant decide on pickups for it!

Its a les paul style construction and tonewoods but in a doublecut shape (LP Jr.) and a 25" scale length, planning on having a hardtail too.

Right, i play mostly 80s/90s alt.rock and im most heavily influenced by these three bands, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam.

I know i wont ever get a decent strat tone from a humbucker but which BKP H/Bs are best when split? Ive got a nice tele to cover most of the singlecoil stuff but extra options are good you know!!!

Id like something pretty powerful in the bridge, probably a ceramic. And a nice neck pickup with a good vocal tone, i think the abraxas might be perfect for me there.....

Cheers!

Tim

For a nice bridge ceramic try the Cold Sweat, it'll handle alot of the tones you mention and also splts well.Alternatively if you want to go the Alnico route check out the Steve Stevens Rebel Yell.
