Question about Holy Diver
« on: April 07, 2005, 11:10:31 PM »
Hey,

How does the Holy Diver- Bridge sound?

Is it named for Vivan Cambell? from Dio

I dont own any BK pups yet but would like to order a set in a month or two and Holy Diver from the descriptions sounds like it might be the pup for me.

As you've noticed I like to indulge myself when coming up with names for our pickups. The Holydiver is aimed at the tones of Vivian Cambell-although the tones on the first Dio album are a touch brittle it's the overall energy of the playing that I was trying to capture. The HD bridge has alot of power but a big, open and really clear tone. It's not super saturated like alot of high gainers. The bottom end is tight, mids smooth and very clear highs.

Never been a fan of River Dogs; I know this is blasphemy, but I prefer Craig Goldy to VC ... I think he's done more for Dio, that's for sure.

Craig Goldy    He plays with the guitar the wrong way round doesn't he :D .Serious rock by numbers player whilst Vivian's got real fire in his hands on those first 2 albums.

Oh man ... you haven't heard Master of the Moon, then , have you?
I may even like it more than Holy Diver; at the very least, it's a dead tie.  Live is a different story; Goldy looks like a cardboard cutout. ("Is he even breathing??")

No you're right I haven't although I just got hold of Killing the Dragon-lots of cheese but some great guitars as ever from Doug Aldrich.

Ah, well Killing The Dragon has the inimitable Doug Aldrich on guitar; the songs were written by Goldy, tho, aside from one track.

ps: yes, I am a total metal geek!!!  :!:

I haven't bought the new Dio cd yet but I heard most of it on XM radio.

they'd play a song then Dio would talk about the song.

evrything I heard was really good.
