The RYs sound awsome, especially the distortion.. But so does all the BKPs..

It would be easier if I just bought them all  :D

But I'm just a poor teen  :(

I'm in the same situation, and I spent ages agonising over my first set of BKPs (Holydiver and a pair of slowhands - see left) and I still maintain that I could've bought one of maybe 3 or 4 different sets and still been just as happy with them...

This combination gets me just about any tone I've wanted it to, but, from what I hear around here, a Nailbomb (and maybe some others I forget about) could do the same. I think that whichever set you end up with you'll be delighted with them, and should spend less time deciding and more time playing them when they get to you

Obviously not trying to play down the importance of getting something suitable, however - the man who buys a Miracle Man for blues will be slightly disappointed I fear :drink:

Yeah it seams like all the BKPs can play a bit of everything..

Thats why I was thinking to different humbuckers for more versatility (sp?)

But I guess the best idea would be to ask Tim, not Tom. :) Or Steve..

But no matter what I'll be exited as hell when I get them.

I hate my Behringer

Theres also the VHII or Rebel Yells which might be better for rock than the Nailbomb.

That's what I was thinking myself actually.   For metal and hard rock (yet will clean up very nicely!), Nailbombs... for hard and classic rock, Rebel Yells, Crawlers (although may be too bassy), and the VHII comes to mind... or of course Mules.

Okay.. A bit to heavy then..

But you both recommended a NB so maybe a calibrated NB set?

And an Irish tour in the middle..

How does that sound?

If you go with the Nailbomb, the Irish Tour seems to balance very well so it's the perfect choice for a middle position.  Maybe even something quieter if you do not use the middle pickup alone, but use it in conjunction with the neck or bridge and want it to clean up.

Of the soundclips I heard I liked the Rebel Yells best. The distortion sounded great. It's hard to chose. But i prefer them over Nailbombs from what I heard. I probably won't use the middle so much.

I have a HSH with Nailbomb/Irish Tour/Abraxas from bridge to neck.  It was getting some serious playing on Saturday when everyone came around and I think Chris went home wanting the Nailbomb!

The body is an Ibanez, but I rerouted it and put in a Kahler trem.  Currently it has a MIM Fender neck, but there is one on the way from Warmoth (then it will have Sperzels too and will stay in tune a lot better when you wail on the kahler!).
So many pickups, so little time

I am pretty sure the decision is simple.  Look at it this way....

Rebel Yell:  they're brighter and pinch really well even at lower gain settings.  They will do classic rock great but may sound a little bit more 80s due to their brightness (which is perfectly fine by me).   Also when playing with a band or even another guitarist, they really do sound as equally huge as when you're playing alone, I can tell you that from experience.

Nailbomb:  From what I've been able to gather they are meaner and they aren't as bright so you need a little more gain to get the same screaming characteristics out of them.  I have a Nailbomb bridge coming to me in a few weeks (just ordered yesterday) so I can tell you how that works out.

What it comes down to is both pickups do hard rock great.  The Nailbomb is more hard rock and heavier, and the Rebel Yell is more up to hard rock.  That said, I've heard some Nailbomb clean clips that sound pretty damn good and I've played thrash acceptably on my Rebel Yells too.

I think a Slow Hand would be a good middle pickup with Rebel Yells too.
