H-S-S Sets
« on: October 24, 2006, 12:13:35 AM »
Greetings,

I have been looking at the hss sets, and was looking at the Stormy Monday set specifically.

This set is listed as a Stormy Monday and two Apaches with A IV and A III magnets respectively.

I had been looking at the Stormy Monday A II  and was wondering if the Sultans in A II would work, or if there is a reason for choosing the pre-configured Stormy/Apache set?

I am aware that Tim knows his stuff, but  I don't and  was looking for more info.

Thanks! :)

Oh I think they may work fine.  Typically the sets are created with the interested of the best match and volume and tone in mind.

That said I got a Nailbomb with Trilogy Suites (broke set) because they seem to stay smoother with gain and have rich harmonics... that and I'd like to get a strat and if/when I do, I already know what pickups that will get - Irish Tours for the fat strat / SRV tones ;)
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

Well, Sultans will probably go better with a Stormy Monday than with a Miracle Man  - my first BKP order was for my first Warmoth strat, MM bridge/Sultans mid & neck (they have a really sweet clean sound BTW) - but switching to pos #1 on the selector gives me this INSANE jump in volume  - that was kind of what I had in mind when I ordered, but it is possible to have too much of a good thing :) The Holy Diver/Irish Tour set on my korina strat is much better balanced.

In other words, I can't think of a reason why not, but then I don't own a Stormy Monday.  YMMV etc...
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

They'll sit together nicely-all Alnico II and a good balance of volume and tone.
