i remember seeing a girl in a guitar shop, she wanted to try out an LTD superstrat, but the assistant seemed determined to steer her towards the acoustic end of the room. when she finally got the LTD in her hands she let rip with this string of arpeggios up and down the neck, the look on the assistant's face was priceless! that girl could seriously play, wish i'd had the balls to go over and say hello
I used to get that with my ex - we used to go into guitar shops and she'd ask to try a metal type guitar. The assistant would get it down and spend 5 minutes showing off under the premise of tuning up and explaining how it all works only to be put to shame as she tore into Racer X's Scarified or some Tony Macalpine stuff.
She's now busy getting too much attention on myspace and getting offers of playing in all sorts of bands
My own experience of girl players is that they are attracted to exotic and dangerous looking guitars - i sold an axe bass to a girl player at Music Live a few years ago. Guys tend to be more conservative in their choices.
I think Daisy Rock are getting it all wrong - forget pink flower shaped guitars - they need to take a few lesssons from Drax!
I also agree with James Healey over girls not being interested in talking technical about gear - just getting on with playing it . It's the same with cars- they dont want to discuss BHp, torque settings and slip differential , but give them the keys to a sports car and they're off and there's no stopping them.
