My answers:
I have bought a couple of gutars for pickups.
I do enjoy the little and the big differences.
I can resist a deal 95% of the time (by the logic "Its a good deal but the stuff I have is better so screw it" where this doesnt apply has led to more guitars)
I do buy guitars for funcitons (trem, no trem, dfferent tuning, bluesy neck pup, blah blah)
I have had guitars I didnt play (sold) and dont often (dont want to sell)
I own 7 guitars now (inc 1 bass) and a total of 11 (edited from 10: forgot one) over 8 years of playing.
7 string and a classical. I'm very satisfied with the tones I have at the moment though (guitar-wise if not entirely amp wise).

If you mean "see what a certain pickup is like", then I normally try to get to try it in a shop (assuming it's not  BK).

If you mean BKP, then yes.

No. If something's too good to be true, it normally is, and this usually becomes apparent when you try it.

yes, there is. But then I normally try another style of guitar I hadn't tried before and decide I have to have it!

Yup.  Each one is different and has its own personality.

To a certain extent yes, but it's all about the sounds to me e.g Tele, Strat, LP, SG etc.

To a certain extent, yes.  But it always changes with me!  For a while it was "I just need a Tele then I'm done".  Currently it's "I need a semi-acoustic/Rickenbacker/Gretsch".  Then there'll be something else...

I guess so. Really that’s why I buy new guitars.....they tend to be similar to what I have but im normally looking for something that has a subtle tone difference etc etc.

No. I currently use the same pickups in each of my guitars (im looking for the tone of the wood to be the difference) and I only swap a pickup if I don’t feel it works in one of the current guitars due to wood, construction, purpose of guitar etc etc.

There aren’t enough guitars I have any interest in buying to cause a problem with resisting a deal nowadays.

The acceptable limit is what you desire and enjoy in my opinion....if your hobby is buying guitars as collectables for example I see no reason why you shouldn’t buy as many as you feel you want to (as long as its within you financial ability and don’t cause serious problems for you or others) if you love guitars…why not. From a personal point of view I don’t want to have more than 6 electrics at once. No one really "needs" allot of guitars its all about the fact we all love to play them and own them....imo of course

Although I'm always seeing new guitars on t'internet and thinking I'd like them, but I realise I never actually need them. I only have 2 electrics and once I've done up the strat, I dont think theres really any need for any more.. I just dont think I'd play em all enough to justify keeping em. I have that thing where I feel 'guilty' about not playing the other guitar enough as it is, cant imagine the guilt if I had even more guitars :lol:

To a certain extent; I like having guitars that feel comfortable for different applications, but I also like certain features that crop up on most of my guitars (maple fretboard being the most obvious).

I have to hold my hand up to this one; the most recent guitar I bought was one I would probably not have considered at full price (Schecter Ultra III), but since it was less than half price I snaffled it and haven't regretted it so far.

Only in as much as I think "I yet don't have a guitar with P90s/a Bigsby/a semi-acoustic, so I can justify that".

No, I'm pretty good at resisting a guitar that won't hold my attention. All of my guitars are played regularly.

I'm not sure I think there's an "upper limit". For some players, one guitar will do everything they could ever want, so that's their limit; other players could collect guitars until they run out of space and still justify another purchase for "rational" reasons. For me, I think I'm approaching the point where all of my guitar needs are met in logical terms, but that won't stop me.

Another Ibanez RG (I already have an RG570 and an RG670DX). I'm leaning in the direction of an RG560 or RG760, but I might also get a seven-string if I find one I like. I'd also like a vintage-style Stratocaster and something like a Les Paul at some point, and maybe an electric 12-string as well.

I shouldn't answer these questions because I am the most irrational guitar buyer here! Tim knows this and said to me when I ordered the PG set (and told him I would have to figure out which guitar to put them on), 'why don't  you just get another for the pickups!'

After a bit of thought, I decided that was the way to go!  However inbetween I have picked up a new guitar (partly because I have always wanted one of these and partly because the price was right), so now I had to order yet another set of BK's (there is a pattern here!).

How many guitars do I have,  well if we split them by types (bass, accoustic and electric), I have 6 basses (I used to be a bass player too), 6 accoustics, and far too many electrics to count!  However in my defence I should tell you that I have been buying guitars for over 30 years.

Sometimes I don't play one for months, and I think that I should sell it, but then when I take it out I remember why I liked it in the first place.  I do have some guitars I bought for a particular sound (my Fender Electric XII for example), so those don't get the play that my Les Pauls get, but overall I do still play most of them, just not enough!.

I don't think you can have too many guitars, but I told you I am the wrong person to ask.  My first wife wanted to know why I needed 12 and I was sort of able to explain that to her, but she didn't like it when I told her she would go before some of my guitars!  I was right though

sometimes i think, " i could do rightly with maybe three guitars..."  but i always find a reason for the existence of all the others.

I'd rather have loads of amps than loads of guitars for some reason.. I think I get "attached" to each guitar I buy (sounds REALLY sad :lol: ) and I dont like buying another just because I feel like it. Plus amps make more of a difference to your tone anyway, with good pickups and a load of different amps I'm sure I can get (nearly) all the tones I want :)

I own 1 Bass which i bought only 1month ago because there will be a time in the near future when i start serious recording & i`ll need a good Bass guitar......It also happens to be an original Fender Squire JV Reissue from `83 so its an investment as well.

As for guitars i own 4 at the moment allthough i`m on the look out for another particular type at the moment.

Yes 1 of my guitars spends most of its time in a case & i dont play it that often but i really like it as a guitar. Unlike my Strat which i hate

Nope - that's me all over. I always want to get new guitars that could open up new styles of playing to me, to keep me interested, and help me improve. wen i get a new gutiar i play for weeks, and learn a style suitable to that insturment...

It depends. If its in a shop and the sales guy is a total arsehole, then I'll usually pass on an deal they offer me. Usually I'm tempted by deals, but its no problem to resist

A SG junior, ESP Edwards '67 style white flying V, ESP Edwards 1954 style black beauty les paul, another flying V for MQs (maybe a faded cherry), a Tokai alder Flying V for Cold Sweats, and some more besides. My dream is to have a real 1970s flying V... maybe some day (sigh) All these plans will probably have to wait for some more years, and probably my taste will change by then. I guess I'll always dream of that 70s V though.

I always remember a quote from Dweezil Zappa (of all people!) who was talking about the best gear you could get for different budgets e.g. £500, £1000, £2000, etc. You had to get at least one amp and one guitar for each price.  He said of one of the higher budgets

"You just need one really good amp, then get a bunch of different guitars for differnt sounds"

I've kinda stuck with that!
