Your favourite PC recording programs???
« on: October 31, 2006, 02:13:36 PM »
I dont have a band so My creative outlet at this stage is forced to do it all myself.

I have a Boss BR864 and staring at the tiny little orange screen is so uninspiring. Let alone hard as hell to navigate the menus to actually compose a rough demo of a song.

I was wondering what the guys around here do for recording. I assume there are at least a few guys around here who dont play in a band and are forced to lay down tracks with drum machines and take the place of most of a band themselves from time to time.

So what would be a good program to get into? Ive never used/seen/played with any of the major ones (protools, cubase)

do you guys have any recommendations for a NON sound engineer to get into?

Thanks guys

I use/like Ableton Live but am considering trying Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro sometime too.
Ableton is pretty complex but you can use it easy enough (without having to have a degree in it :)).

I've used Cubase for a few years now, and it's pretty straight forward. All of the decent programs out there will require a short learnign curve, and I don't think Cubase is that much harder than any other. If I was starting again, I might look at Abletone Live, as the new release has just got a cracking review in Sound on Sound :)

I've been using Pro Tools LE with the mbox for quite a while and I'm quite happy with it.  8)

I got a Cubase LE with my soundcard, it's quite easy to learn with the tutorial.

Pro Tools and Cool Edit Pro 2.0 aswell, have to use them for uni.

And Nuendo, should be getting a free copy of it soon from a good friend.  :D

(used Audacity aswell before i got those cause its free, and it has a function that seems to get rid of noise quite well)

I've been using Cubase but took a break from it as the manual vexates my soul! But when you get it to work it's fantastic!
