Just wondering how long do tubes/valves normally last before you need new ones? Do they just gradually deterierate over time or all of a sudden? Do they last longer if you never crank your amp?

They will gradually deteriorate and will last around 12 months of regular use for power valves. Pre-amp valves generally last longer as they're not working so hard. Cranking will shorten their life, yes.
