Next up from a Rebel Yell ?
« on: November 08, 2006, 08:52:31 AM »
I am looking for some pups for my les paul. I have a rebel yell in the bridge position of my strat and I love the mids it pumps out. I want something similar but with more scream. I think I am going to go with a cold sweat for the neck because I have read on here it gives a good petrucci type of tone. Any ideas for the bridge, it’s a bit tough to judge without tone charts.

Thanks

Darren

Nailbomb - a shade more output than the RY, still plenty of mids, screams & a good match for a Cold Sweat neck.... :)
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

I read that somewhere also, The cold sweat neck is the same as u get as a rebel yell neck. Same pickup.

I went from a nailbomb to a Rebel Yell, in my opinion the nailbomb sounds too dark and is no where near as bright as the RY. I think nailbomb is most well suited to modern metal. Maybe Miracle man is what you want, in my opinion this is maybe the best bridge pickup bare knuckle makes for metal.

Cold sweat neck is great, but bridge depends on what sort of out put you are after ?
If you love massive grinding singing mid chunk and tight bass whilst retaining clarity in a hot pickup then go for a Painkiller.
If you want lower output level and some mid chunk go for the rebel yell in your Les paul.
If you are into the sort of gain that petrucci uses go for the painkiller it rock like f**k.
